Has anyone actually tried a 3" backing plate on a G9?

I know they say the G9's need to use their own backing plates for balance etc, but has anyone actually tried a 3" Griots plate on one yet?
I'm just not seeing how it would be any worse on a G9 then the GG6, the counter weight looks to be same size just the G9 has plastic around it...

I would never use the 3" set up on it.

These machines were not designed to use such a small BP/pad.

One miscue, and you have paint damage.

The GG6? Yes, if you are careful.

Backing Plate Swap - 5 inch backing plate for the Griot's Garage G9

I put the 3” plate from my GG3 on my G9 and took pictures with the 3.5” BOSS pad and regular thickness 3” pad - based on how much the shroud blocks your vision of where you’re correcting I wouldn’t try it on a car. That’s not even factoring in likely vibration levels or how much heat you might put into the pads/backing plate with the throw/power.

If it’s your machine and you just have to, then go for it; but for me it’s a “just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”
