I suppose this is off topic, just wondering if anyone has tried to polish their stainless steel bbq? The factory finish is pretty dull and not sealed at all. Also I think if your just doing the outside surface it shouldn't affect the food quality at all ??

I just use a ss cleaner by hand going with the grain, it cleans up the dirt and takes care of oxidation. The frame and resting shelves I'll wash then seal with Hydro2, either way after I'm done I'll heat up the grill to get rid of any left over product before I cook

•That'd be quite a chore removing the
"brushed finish"; remove all those
intentionally-manufactured scratches?

-Then I sure wouldn't purchase an appliance
with that type of finish in the first place!

Instead of buffing the grill...
Get it rhodium plated. :xyxthumbs:

I have a 10 or 12 year old Weber gen. gold. Dont cover it, havnt washed it nothing. No rust, ignitor still works, nothing is wrong with it. SS for the win. Wheels dont roll very well and more, the little ones....

No...but I thought about it and decided not to. Mine is stainless, but has large cast aluminum edges holding it all together. I'm still planning on cleaning mine up, just not with my rotary like I'd considered. Got a couple rust spots on it where I left something on it that shouldn't have been put there and left in the first places. I mainly wanted to clean it up though just to brighten up the cast aluminum.

I doubt many of the products we use are designed to handle several hundred degrees that they'll see in close proximity to burners. Maybe wheel products but even wheels have significant airflow over them to help cooling that a bbq pit will not.

Who said anything about putting anything on to take the heat? No one mentioned lsp's...they were talking about buffing them out.

Ok...I stand corrected. Someone in a joking sense mentioned using Sweet Baby Ray's as an lsp. LOL!
