Hey guys, getting ready to place an order for some detailing supplies and have a question about HD Adapt. I see on the Autopia Comparison Chart they rated HD Adapt as a 6 for its cut power. Does anyone know what it's rated for its gloss/shine?

I see that Menzerna FG400 is rated 8 cut and 8 gloss. That's extremely impressive. I'm looking for a product that's going to give me a great cut but finish off shinny so I don't have to do a second step, polish on it. Trying to keep the cost down for my customers who are having me do paint correction work.

I can get a 32 oz bottle of HD adapt for $25. The 32 oz bottle of Menzerna FG400 is $47 almost double what the HD Adapt costs. So, my question is this. For almost double the price is the FG400 worth it for the cut and finish over say the HD Adapt?

I am currently using the Chemical Guys scratch and swirl removal and just not happy with the results. Don't get me wrong, the results are not bad but I use my flex 3401 and feel the paint should have a better result. If the scratches are real bad I'll even break out the Chemical Guys Hybrid compound which I'm beginning to think is not very good as well.

My main goal here is to have a product that will give me amazing results when doing a paint correction but not have to polish the vehicle afterwards. Then just add the wax on and done. Collinite 845 for the customers. 😎😉

Just a heads up, they canceled production of HD Adapt. Not that you still cant't find it, but if you're going to use it, stock up.

FG400 is usually paired with SF3500. HD Adapt is usually paired with HD Poxy. CG stuff isn't the greatest, and their customer service is beyond atrocious, so I understand you not wanting to use their products lol.

HDSpeed is a great all in one product that you can use on multiple pads. For instance, you can use it on an orange pad, get great cutting results, or use it on a white pad, still get mild cutting results, or use it on a number of different pads. If you're looking for a 1 step process, I'd recommend this. Otherwise, I'd PERSONALLY go with HDAdapt, and finish it with Poxy.

Cancellation of HD Adapt???? Wonder why? I have read great reviews on the stuff. Good grief. I am also looking for a better AIO and HD Speed will be it.

When doing a more in depth paint correction such as heavier scratch removal or reduction, swirl removal or heavy oxidization removal I'm looking to cut out having to polish prior to waxing or sealing. Looking for that good cut that finishes out shinny. I have no doubt that FG400 will accomplish this but at more than near double the cost of Adapt.

Plenty other options:

Meguiars D300
Meguiars Ultimate Compound
Menzerna PF2500
Rupes Quarz
Rupes UHS
Griots Garage Correcting Cream
Mothers
McKees

The list goes on and on...

Meguiar's M86 might work. I use it a lot as my "medium" polish on either a cutting or finishing pad. In terms of cut, it's between M100/M105, and M205.

I was originally designed as a "one liquid" system from heavy cutting with a wool, to final polishing with a fine foam pad - all on a rotary. The idea was that the so1o M86 liquid would "adapt" to the pad and approach with which it was being used. This was also the first time we'd see a SMAT abrasive polish commercially available.

While I'm not 100% on D300, Ultimate Compound is something I put on the heavier side of the scale, inherently more aggressive than M86.

I have had great results using FG400. The cutting and finishing ability of it is amazing. I usually use it on a white hybrid and it finishes down really well even on black paint. I have no experience with HD Adapt so I won't comment on that, but I know that FG400 will do what you are looking to do.

Here's a show and shine I did on Adapt

Also I have used both Adapt and FG400. Both are excellent products. Price and ease of use go to Adapt. It has a longer working time and removes more easily than FG400. Both finish down excellent. But Adapt has been discontinued so get it while you can.

I just ordered two 32 oz bottles of the Adapt. Once it's gone I will look at trying FG400 which is nearly double the cost of Adapt.

I've never used Adapt, but FG400 is my go to for paint with heavy defects and there are times when it finishes so good I don't need a second step (but I usually hit it with 3500 anyway).

A bit annoyed they're discontinuing HD Adapt, an excellent product, can't say I'll be going back to 3D for a compound/polish, never know when they'll discontinue the next one. Will have to look elsewhere.

D300 can finish down so amazingly well if you keep the pad clean. This is probably my most used compound.

I'd try either HD Cut+ and/or 3D AAT Finishing Polish for a replacement of HD Adapt. Very similar technology and should be able to echo the results of Adapt when paired with the right pad.

It's unfortunate that some have lost faith in 3D/HD because we decided to discontinue Adapt (it actually says a lot). If you've followed the history of our company, you'd know that we've taken great strides at simplifying our product offerings unlike other companies who repetitive lines end up confusing the end user. Because our new polishing compounds (as I mentioned) can duplicate your results, we find it more advantageous for everyone by giving them less choices.

I've never used HD Adapt or FG400... (so I guess that means you should ignore whatever I am going to type next!) But if you are looking for a versatile one-step medium polish with outstanding finishing ability check out:

SONAX EX 04-06 250 ml.

Top it off with your LSP of choice!
