The highway department just covered the road in front of my house with tar and stone chips. I cannot get the stuff out of the treads on my tires and the wheel wells. I don't want to park in the garage until this is taken care of. I used tar remover to get the tar off of the paint but I don't want to drive and sling the remaining goo onto the truck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Diesal fuel or kerosene...thats what road crews use to remove tar....it will not harm the tires....wipe them down good and then wash with a dawn mix....will work on both areas...just soak a rag and start working it....the wetter you keep the rag the better it cuts it...we had a tar & gravel road for years here...and I went thru it also...

PS....you may need a cheap scrub brush for the treads to get inside them....

Stoners Tarminator in wheel wells, leave the tires alone.

Thanks - I think I'll try the Stoners, I'm not very comfortable with diesal or kero.

Tarminator is none more than kerosene and xylene..look at the sheets on it....

OK guys - I'll give kero and a stiff brush a try and report back. Thanks again for the info.

i know this is an old post but was wondering what tar remover did you use to get it off paint? as well as what process you used. just talked to my ex-mother-in-law and her white van below the body mollding is now brown due to road tar. she said its been there for like 3weeks. looking for any advise to get it of paint and glass.

Here is an excellent review by Al417 that fits your situation to a "T".

Surf City Grim Destroyer just could not remember who. and i did a search for tar removal and found this post. AL417's review did not come up. i guess it's time i order the 2liter size. the tar i am gonna deal with it is atleast twice as bad and been there for 3 weeks. i will get pics soon of what i have to tackle.

THANKS

Here's my experience with it. It's really thick and hard to spray so I just diluted a batch 1:1. Haven't used it diluted yet. It does spray now. Another on here changed srayers and it worked. A little goes a long way so you may want to order the smaller amount to see if you like it.

Stoners Tarminator usually works well on stubborn tar. Have used Poorboys Bug Squash without issue on newer tar spots.

nice long burnouts leave their mark too.:D
i use a scraper in the wheel wells and tires, then a cleaner for the wells, nothing on the tires as mentioned above..
i also use wd 40 on the fenders if needed, then wash and re protect.

Al is exactly right guys. I've used Tarminator for two years and found this info out. I now have small bottle of kerosene with me for tar removal. It really works and it safe.

A lot safer than the tar is!!!

After you use Kerosene on the wheels, light them! Ghost Rider!!!!!

hahaha, just kidding. It does work good. I never had any luck with Tarminator.
