Wow am I hooked now...
Hi all,
I have always loved cleaning up cars but never jumped all the way into paint correction and polish. I had bought a Craftsman 10" random orbital polisher years ago and it got used but not very well.
Well last winter I stumbled across Larry from AMMO NYC on the Drive channel of YouTube and I watched that stuff for hours. I have been reading up more and more about paint correction and then over the last month or so between here and Autotopia I have been ready to pull the trigger.
The weekend I was getting ready to order GG6 and some supplies my relationship status suddenly changed and that in turn modified my household income. I was just going to wait it out for a while and then someone posted about their DA being out for repairs someone else suggested grabbing a HF DA to use as a fill in.
I quickly learned that there is a HF store about 45 min away from me (never knew that before, another win) so I went and grabbed one after work that Saturday. Grabbed some 205 and a blue and black foam pad, unfortunately I grabbed 8" not 6" pads.I said screw it and tried it out when I got home (after a quick rinse and clay). It didn't so much but it sure didn't hurt. I did more reading and found all of the suggestions to swap out to a 5" BP and grabbed some new hex pads for that. I also found a bottle of Meg's UC I had bought and forgotten about. I changed out the BP and added the sharpie mark I had forgotten.
Last week someone was posting pics of their finished work and he happened to be from Illinois (Peoria, I think) and had done up a Mustang with the same dark red paint like mine. It was amazing and it really did look like wet paint.
This morning I went at it again, starting of very slowly with the 205 and not seeing what I want so I switched to the UC and went a little firmer on the pads.
Holy disappearing scratched Batman! I taped off half of the hood and went at the drivers side and as i got my technique down it started working wonders. I think these pics are going too be to dark (really crap lighting in the garage) but it looks great.
I don't have any serious sealants yet (on the list) but I swabbed on some Megs gold for now and it may not be Car Show ready yet but it is miles away from where it was. Really only a few minor straight line scratches left on the drivers side.
so really, thanks, I have already learned a lot and have tons more to soak up.
