Name name is Eric and I live in a suburb of Detroit. I'm getting back into car detailing after getting lazy over the past many years. I have a 67 Cougar, a 91 F150, a 96 Thunderbird and a 09 F150 Super Crew. I just bought a bunch of Griot's products including both the 3 & 6 inch ROP's, machine polish 3, Best of Show and some towels, etc. My 96 T-Bird has had overspray on it for years. I used the Griot's clay on it and I couldn't believe how well it worked. I have heard about clay for years but never tried it. Wow, what a difference. Now I have to give the fleet a good once over.

There's a ton of great information on this site and I've spent WAY too much time surfing this week (I am working after all). I'm sure I'll ask many stupid questions so be easy on me until I get up to speed on all of the terms.

Thanks!

Eric

Very cool car, which engine do you have? Auto or Manual trans?

No such thing as a stupid question on this forum so ask away!

Mike, My Cougar is an XR7 with the GT package. It's a 390, 4 barrel, automatic with A/C. It's a California car that I bought back in 98. I pulled and freshened up the motor and cleaned up the engine bay. My buddy painted it about 4 years ago. He stripped it down to bare metal and sprayed it back to the original color of Sage Gold (base clear instead of single stage).

Here's a picture before the restoration at my buddy's burnout bash he has every year.

Here's a few after pictures although they're a little washed out.

Welcome, Eric!

Love that Cougar. How's the interior?

How's the interior?

The interior is great shape except for the chrome. Being that it spend 32 years in San Diego about a block from the ocean, the chrome on the interior is quite pitted. I've been replacing pieces as I find nice replacements. I have quite a few friends with Cougars so we help each other out with parts. My buddy replaced the headliner when he painted it.

I have some BF Goodrich Radial T/A w/raised white letters going on soon.

That thing is wicked :xyxthumbs:

Way back in the day, (early 80's) my buddy had a Couger with the 390, with I think a 4 speed manual. That thing would get scratch on the freeway at 90mph :D

:dblthumb2:

Edit: It was a 427 with 390 hp

If you drive anything like I did back in the 80's, you won't have any rubber left on your rear tires in about a month :D

The right rear tire is about bald. The other 3 are like new.

The days of the big burnouts like that are gone since the restoration. The wheel (one wheel peel) sometimes breaks loose when leaving lights, stop signs, etc!:xyxthumbs:

We also buy a cheap car right before the burnout bash. We abuse the hell out of it, fix it if needed and then re-sell it. That way people that don't want to trash their cars have something to rage on.

Very cool...

One of my best friends in High School had a 1969 Cougar XR7 so I spent a lot of time cruising around in a very similar car. His had the small block 351 but still a lot of fun.

Very nice car... plus easy to buff panels...

Mental note to self:
Do NOT buy a car from Eric or his friends.
