I am new to the site as of today and have been reading for hours already.

Sounds like a typical issue I am already trying to decide between a PC and a Flex and there is plenty of reading on this subject.
I currently have 2 black and 1 white cars that I will post pictures of before and after once I get a buffer and supplies. I have a heated garage to work out of and nothing but time since there is snow on the ground and it is freaking cold out and as a result not much more to do until spring! Cigars and detailing it will be.

Hi and welcome to Autogeek Online! :welcome:

The easiest tool to learn to use and perfect your technique with is the Porter Cable 7424XP, it's small, lightweight and very easy to control and the trend right now are for more products, (paint care chemicals), and buffing pads being designed specifically for this tool.

There are more knock-offs of this tool being introduced all the time and using the right pads, products and technique there's pretty much nothing you can't do with the PC.

The Flex is a much more powerful tool since it's a direct drive but it is an all together different type of tool to use with a much different feel to it when using it as compared to the PC.

I think it's one of those things where in a perfect world you would have a chance to test both and then choose the one that fits you the best.

The progression usually goes like this,

Work by hand
PC
Flex 3401
Rotary Buffer

Don't limit yourself to just one tool but pick one to start with and later, add another.

I'm out in our studio/training center testing pads and compounds using the new Flex PE 14 and absolutely loving his new polisher but I like to have multiple tools available depending upon the need.

Here's an article I wrote, if you haven't read through it yet maybe give it a read-through...

How to choose the right polisher for your detailing project

And I'm spreading the word that we have our own TV show starting in 2011 and they're looking for cars and cool car stories for the show so if you have one or know of someone that does then here's a thread that talks about it...
