Hi,
My names Dave, lived most of my life in Nottinghamshire England except for a spell in the Army which took me a few places in the 70s, I have a life long passion for motorbikes and more recently classic scooters, Vespa's and Lambrettas. Early on cars were to me just for getting round as my heart lay with two wheels but having a family meant I needed the practicality of four wheels. I would say before our latest car my last car I felt anything for was my first, and that was a Volkswagon Beetle a 1972, met my wife when I had that and we went everywhere in it.
now to get to our latest car, it's pretty humble, a Volkswagon Golf, a 2010 2.0 TDI SE spec. In metallic reflex silver.
As I say nothing special to many but I've got the love bug again with this one so I've been reading up on detailing and looking at loads of reviews and stuff. And decided to get myself the Flex 3401 ive bought the LC backing plate system, and a snow foam lance, I've only got one pad up to yet and that's a finishing pad. Since getting it the weather as decided to change for the worst, it's not particularly cold but it's rain, rain, oh and a bit more rain.
So basically Ive not had chance to play yet.
It will fall in line with my scooter restorations Ive been doing for the past couple of years, in the mid 90s I approached a body shop, and basically offered them free labour in exchange for the opportunity to learn body repair and paint spraying. I didn't really have any outlet for my mediocre new skills till I took up with the scooters but it's been handy to be able to do a lot of the work myself, including the welding. Sorry for the long intro. It's either all or nothing with me .lol.
Hope to get to know some of you out there along the way, and learn from your extensive knowledge
Dave

Welcome to AGO!! Way cool introduction of yourself!! You will learn a lot from this site!!

Welcome Dave! Great introduction and i'd love to see some photos of any 2 wheeled reno's you've done if you have any. I owned a '62 Bug in high school myself ('75-'76) and am drawn to them as well.

Thankyou everyone, good to feel welcome, I'm still getting used to typing and trying to put my thoughts out in print rather than the old fashioned way of just having a chin wag, I've pictures of scooters I've had and restored, not had loads as I came into them later, it's unusual for that to be the case really as most of the 'scooterists' I know came into them through the scene by that I mean the two main surges of interest the scooters have enjoyed in the UK,
I love the looks, sound and for some weird reason, the smell of burning two stroke oil? Guess that takes me back to my youth and the two stroke bikes of the seventies.
So much to learn on this great site, it's a veritable mine of good information. It's nice to know that there are professionals as well as very experienced amateur detailers willing to pass on their hard earned skills.
I'm sure I will be popping on with questions especially when I get the opportunity to get outside with my new polisher. It's not been raining as much today but everywhere is wet through and it's all but impossible to dry anything off without an heat source. We live in a bungalow on a steep hillside, and though in summer we get loads of sunshine, this time of year the sun does not make any contact with the drive side of the house.
