not a detailer but and detail freak, Moved from Detroit to Chicago 1 1/2 yr ago love it here besides the fact this is not a car friendly city. I am a hand wash only kinda guy and every hand car wash here is not so great, maybe only like 2 or 3 good ones that wont put scratches in your car. I was hoping to fig out some way to wash my car in my garage but thats a no go and how i can clean my car good enough to detail it in my garage.

Welcome from the NW Suburbs. Look into some waterless wash systems. Otherwise stick to a two bucket wash.

Welcome to AGO! I'm a Chicagoan too... If you actually know
2 or 3 car washes here in the City that don't instill marring or
swirls, please PM me with details! Thanks a bunch!

Thanks all , I mean all of them put swirls into car but theres one place that seems to being a little more caring than most, simon shine shop but your paying for it. Also with this waterless wash can this be used as a prep before detailing( polishing and wax) or you have to still use traditional 2 bucket? I use to have a driveway lol

I would personally do the two bucket wash and follow by claying before compounding and polishing, but I suppose you could use this as a prep. but still need to clay.

Sadler, get yourself some rinseless wash, I suggest Duragloss, 2 five gallon buckets, 2 grit guards and an Aqua sponge and wash anywhere w/ a total of 4 gallons of water!

oh most defiantly would clay, I just dont like the idea of rinseless wash. maybe go to a coin wash when not busy and was with 2 bucket and drive home and pour buckets of water on the car to rinse to get any dirt off during the drive home(few blocks) ? idk lol

From one former Detroiter to another I'd be happy to show you how well and easy the rinseless wash works on my own car, been using it since March of 2012, no issues ever!

WELCOME!

Chicago winters can be brutal on a car. The salt and cinders can be very hard to remove. If you can not wash your car in the garage then there is another option I would recommend. I would take my car to a coin op spray wash.. This should rinse a lot of the salt off as well as the cinders in the tire wheels. I would then use a good waterless wash at home with numerous micro fiber towels. Autogeek sells numerous good quality waterless washes as well as micro fiber towels. I would also recommend using a good sealant prior to the first snow and regularly using a spray wax to keep the finish slick. This will keep some of the salt and grime from sticking.

Now that I live in an apartment that has an underground parking spot I'll be able to keep my car up better during the winter for sure. I've got a quarter carwash right around the corner, so that will take care of the underneath, wheelwells and the majority of grit on the car, from there I'll just drive straight to the underground parking spot and do a rinseless wash. When the car is "really bad" I'll be doing the Garry Dean method for the 1st time but as far as maintence washes go I'll be doing the normal, straight ahead rinseless method with my trusty Aqua sponge.

As far as a little get together goes, well, we need someone to host it first. Sunday's are probably best for this. Btw there's a huge carshow at Arlington Toyota this Saturday the 14th, I'll be there, just look for the Storm Silver Metallic Honda CR-Z, shouldn't be too hard to spot, I'll probably have the only one there!

yea sounds like a plan but i am driving the jeep right not and the paint is past the point saving,(cracked painted everywhere) it stays dirty most the time. waiting till spring to get a new car. but yea i rinse the jeeps underside of 2 a week in winter to keep the frame in good shape.

Do you have to register your car or can someone just come by? What time is this at? I might just stop by.
