My name is Tim I started cleaning cars a little over 10 years ago when I worked at a car wash and the detailer there quit, I just took it on myself and fell in love but stuck with the same way of doing it until a couple years ago and tried some new things but as of last year I started a business and want to learn everything I can. I have been reading on this site for some time now and cant stop learning and love it. I work full time and do this part time but would really like to do this full time.

I'm always willing to learn so anytime someone is willing to teach I'm ready to learn. There's a bunch of detailers in the lansing area and I've ran into a few that had attitudes so its good to know there is some good guys out there that don't run on greed. The guy that does all my printing has a saying that I steal often to explain people like that "hated by most haters"

Tim, you're absolutely right -- there are a bunch of guys in the Lansing area "detailing" cars (more accurately I'd say "cleaning"), but I have yet to come across any others doing the level of high end detailing we discuss on this and other online forums. I too have come across the "attitudes" and greed, and those who follow that philosophy don't usually last too long. I've watched more than one established shop go out of business over the years as a result.

The way I see it, there are plenty of cars to go around, so there's no reason to be cut-throat about the business. It all comes down to figuring out the market you want to target and serve, and doing what it takes to appeal to them. :buffing:
