Hello everyone - I recently moved down to Charlotte (Matthews area) from Cary for work purposes. After 14 years in IT and finishing up my degree I decided it's time for a new ride. I picked up a 2011 328i coupe in Crimson Red. It is in great shape with low miles, but whoever had it before me took very poor care of the paint.

The information on this forum is excellent! After looking at many different products, (and there are SOOOO many to choose from) I went with several products from Chemical Guys and have found them to be outstanding so far. I've used Klasse & Wolfgang products in the past and still like them...very good results with those. I've never used a DA before and was a little nervous, but it really is very easy....and the results are starting to show.

After a dawn wash, clay, wash..I'm only finished with the first pass of paint correction as the car was moderately swirled - the first tip to anyone starting out...Buy several pads of each type and really good pad cleaner! I was shocked at how well CG pad cleaner worked, but having only one orange pad to start was very slow.

I read BobbyG's post about using a pad for only 2 panels before cleaning and would have to agree....that's about it before you see diminished results in performance. I have since ordered more pads and cleaner...i figure 3 pads per type will do half a normal car, then a quick wash and rinse out, spin dry and let them air dry for about 20-30 minutes..have a beer, move on to the other side....wash rinse repeat. I can't wait to post some pics when complete....it's a fun car.

Thanks again to everyone for posting such good information - Have a great weekend!

For normal use, 2 panels is about it when using 1 pad "if" you don't clean them. Mike Phillips has a section on Cleaning Your Pad on the Fly. I've copied in a couple of his links for reference.

Why it's important to clean your pads often...

How to clean your foam pad on the fly

If I wash and rinse a pad I'll also spin it on my rotary machine to force out excess water and also lay it flat and fold it between a bath towel then press it flat holding it for 10 seconds or so.

Hi BobbyG - Thanks for the links! I had watched the cleaning the foam pad on the fly...it ended up about like this....:buffing:

I'll have to work on that technique!

Great information!

Cheers -

Very nice. I am detailing a deep sea blue 2011 e92 328i now.

Write up coming tm night.

Thanks much - It's much rougher than i thought though. I have several areas that aren't coming out with the current products. I have m105 on order and the samples of v32/v36 from CG. It looks ok but not with the light.

That Blue will look great i bet..looking forward to the pics.

Cheers!

Nice looking car! I'm still getting my act together in preparation for working on mine. I'm still a little hesitant since it's black....
