Hello from Vermont with a problem

Hey all. My name is Mike, been on the lurking on the forums for a while now but always could find an answer to my questions by searching but now I'm at a loss.

So my problem is, my neighbor was spray painting something on a fairly calm day a couple days back. As i was drying my car from washing it I noticed the paint was feeling rough. long story short i figured it out that the roughness was caused by the over spray.

The car is a 2001 SAAB Viggen, it's coated in cquartz. What is the best way to go about removing the overspray? clay barring did not remove any. What would be a good way to go about this? thanks

I used to work in Burlington at all the dealerships doing paint repair on bumpers. I moved about 2 years ago to Richmond VA
About the cquartz coating I am not sure about how to remove the over-spray without damaging the coating. I personally have not used that coating, I do know that Goof Off or any of those strong solvents will remove paint overspray. Also lacquer thinner will, (use with extreme caution) I the overspray is that bad I dont think the coating can be spared when removing it.
I am sure the other Pros here will help out.

if you have reload maybe spray some on a gray finishing pad and buff it out? otherwise i have no idea

Yeah i didn't want to use solvents because i didn't know how the would affect the coating. Its looking like i might have to re-apply cquartz after i take the overspray off anyways.

Try applying more pressure and using water as lube. That, or a more aggresive clay

Your options are a bit limited and using a more aggressive clay with plenty of lubricant and you should see some improvement. Occasionally I had to use a rubbing compound and a wool pad on a rotary polisher to dislodge the particles..

Have you approached your neighbor making him aware that he unintentionally painted your car? It might be a good idea to do it in a friendly way, just be sure it's the same color he was spraying...rops:
