So my customer has a 2010 dark blue metallic Jeep Wrangler Sahara. They put mascot magnets on the driver and passenger doors for football season and they left a mark.

The weird thing is the mark behind the magnets is LIGHTER than the rest of the paint. Most magnets I remove the is the opposite where the paint around it fades and the part covered by the magnet is darker.

I have tried compound (M105 and Menzerna) and polish (M205 and Menzerna, and Optimum) with the strongest pads I have with my Flex and it hasn't made a dent at all. I have tried multiple passes to the point I am worried about the clear coat.

Has anyone else had this an what did you do to fix it???

wow.. that 105 should have def. removed it!! I've used d300, AIO, and 205 with success!

sorry not much help.. spit ball.. did you clay that area first?

Yes - I foamed the entire car, washed with ONR, and clayed the entire car before starting paint correction.

I am stumped.

It sounds like water got trapped in between the magnet and the paint and discolored the paint. It may eventually dry out with enough time and exposure to the sun.
And if you think that our paint finishes are impervious to water don't kid yourself. They are not.

I had to "console" a friend that had put on old, failing car cover on her new car and the water soaked through in places and was held against the paint for several weeks. It took an entire summer parked uncovered in the sun before the paint was exactly the same shade again.
It didn't seem to harm the actual paint itself. She kept the Ford Taurus for another five years and it still looked great on the day she sold it. I kept it fairly well corrected and she applied wax every two weeks throughout it's life. I had her using Meguiars #26 and I supplied the M/F clothes.
