I got a black 2014 BMW 328xi and noticed today that there was a bird dropping on my car. I removed the bird dropping and proceeded to clay the residue out and noticed a light etching in the clear coat. I believe this would be a standard "type 1". It is only visible when the light hits it just right.

Is this normal? What is the best way to address this?

All my best,
Matt

Its normal since bird bombs are acidic, sometimes youll get lucky if you have protection on your car and its not sitting for a long time or it can be less of an impact on the clearcoat. You can try Meguiars Ultimate compound by hand using CCS Euro Foam Applicators to help remove it to a decent level, but your best bet is a machine. If that's not an option, since bird bombs is a thing that you cant always avoid (unless garaged), I would say leave it alone until you do a seasonal polish routine.

Keep a small spray bottle of QD with a MF towel in a zip lock bag under your seat or in the trunk and remove bird bombs, tree sap etc. as soon as possible to prevent etching.
