Hello everyone,

I am a newbie and planning to buy my first polisher and I am between the followings:

  • DAS-6 PRO PLUS
  • DAS-6 Pro
  • Forced 3401
  • DAL-21

Which one should I buy for a basic car paint restoration?

Thank in advanced!

Flex 3401 if it fits into your budget or get the Griots 6" with a lifetime warranty.

If you're new to using a polisher, a lot of folks here are going to suggest Griots Garage GG6 or a Porter Cable 7424xp. Both are good polishers to start out with and learn with. I started out with a PC myself a couple of years ago, and then I got a Flex XFE-7 long throw polisher.

I use both polishers today and I love them both. I only do my own vehicles and am not a professional detailer. So, take what I say with a grain of salt. Many forum members here are pro's, so take into account what they tell you. I'm sure you'll make the decision that's right for you.

For being new to polishing, I'd go with either the GG6 or 3401 (I have and use both regularly).

Both are capable of running different sized backing plates which enables a much wider pad choice. The GG6 is slightly easier to control, but the 3401 yields more consistent (and faster) results (forced rotation).

I currently run a 3" BP on my GG6 and a 5" plate on my 3401.

given his choices listed, i assume you are from over the pond?

To me if i was to do it again i think i'd just go for the bigger dudes like the g21, rupes 21, flex 3401 to start and just have some what of a caution behind them
on edges and what not. Even though i started with the gg6 it still was great since i turned into a 3inch polisher. In the end you'll need all of them lol.

the problem with owing a large throw DA for a first polisher is you aren't able to get into tight areas and are limited to what you can do. that's why i have mentioned many times that everyone should own at least pc-style DA which has a variety of uses and then add another polisher to compliment it. the GG6 and G21 are an awesome combo...

Forensic Detailing has a number of videos about the entire line of DAS polishers. Same person did a video on the Flex XC 3401. You can find them on Youtube. I will assume that you are overseas somewher.

I am from Europe and that's why I have put the list. It's easier to find them here.

Since you mention DAS machines..i'm going to assume you're not in the US...so Id wait for the Makita PO6000c to hit the market if you want a smooth forced rotating D/A. id imagine the das pro plus is 21mm? if you need a machine today..id prob go with that

if you get the 4" lake country changeable backing plate for the flex 3401 you will be able to use 4" pads. it comes stock with a 5.5" backing plate on the polisher which will work with 6.5" pads unless the 5.5" pads have the velcro extended to the edge, otherwise use the 4.5" backing plate listed below. keep in mind you will need to purchase both these backing plates as well...

Ordered 3401. I think I was not going wrong either with 3401 or DAS6 Pro Plus. What your opinion guys?

It is possible to harm the paint with 3401? Of course i will see tutorials how to use it.

You can harm the paint by hand - with the wrong technique, and bad product.

You'll be fine with the 3401. I always found the 3401 very easy to use, smooth, and comfortable.

I liked the Lake Country Hydrotech on my 3401. A LOT of 3401 fans like the hybrid/force pads.

But... what color? Will the orange one remove the swirls from a soft paint?
I could get the 3-pack if i find it anywhere here (and is not expensive too).

Also I am reading that LK Hydrotech is for water-based polishes. Is Meguiar's Ultimate Compound water based? I can't find anywhere

Griots is a great first polisher for anyone. Bang for buck and lifetime warranty, they have great customer service. My on/off switch failed and I had a new one in 4 days for free. I bought a BOSS for my Dad and he is in love. I'd go Griots myself, I have no experience with those you mentioned.
