Help me pick out an approach on red jewel ext

A few weeks ago I decided it was a great idea to use some was n wax bottle that was laying around garage(threw it away next day and forgot the name) because I was too lazy to go buy more meguiars gold class shampoo which is what i typically use. Anyway to make a long story short, next day i see these tiny white dots all around different parts of the car. My best guess was that the "wax" somehow didn't dissolve correctly in the water. If i use my fingernail i can scrub it off. Pictures to follow, a little hard to see. The car hasn't been washed in about a week and a half;








The third picture shows damage from what appeared to be some sort of bra that it had before I bought it. They are small chips in paint.

I got a little bit into detailing a few years ago, mostly the products side of it which were much better than chain store stuff. I have some blackfire such as GE polish, midnight sun carnauba and wet diamond PP also a couple menzerna products(IP IP2). Besides those some meguiars interior, shampoo(learned that lesson), qd, spray wax, nxt sealant, etc.

How should i approach the paint? Will I need to get a DA and some pads? This was what i was planning on doing:

Wash with megs gc shampoo
clay
repeat wash
bf gloss enhancing polish
bf wet diamond pp
wait overnight then hit it with some midnight sun carnauba

My concern is that the BF GEP isn't going to cut enough to get the minor swirls/scratches out. Im hoping the claying will remove all those pesky wax leftovers. Also is there anything I can do for the hood chips? Dr.colorchip? Repaint?

The Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish is non-abrasive, it's what's called a paint cleaner or pre-wax cleaner.

It will remove these white dots by hand or machine and leave the paint ready to seal with a wax.

Repaint for the above chips in the paint...

Both claying and the BF GEP will together remove the white dots and get your paint clean and clear, ready to wax. Like I explain in this recent article,

Also is there anything I can do for the hood chips? Dr.colorchip? Repaint?

If you want it to look good, then re-paint, that's a lot of damage to try to fix with Dr. Color Chip AND have it look good to what I'm guessing will be your expectations of what "looks good" means.

I bet you used the Turtle's Gold Series W&W. did it look like this:

I used this stuff years ago and got those same white spots. I had to clean them off with a cleaner wax (Mother's). The worse was getting them off the windows.

You can get them off by hand by a cleaner wax like Mother's, but its going to be a lot easier to use a machine especially if they are on the glass.

I can't remember the brand name, all i know it was neon green and had a formula car on bottle. I forgot to mention its on the glass too lol, how did you get it off? I was thinking of picking up some glass polish and going to town.

Sounds like one of these two, which are from the same company and probably a similar formula:

The Turtle strikes again! I used Mother's liquid cleaner wax by hand, but that was years ago. I used it on the glass as well. Cleaner waxes have light abrasives that can remove spots like that fairly easily. Also, you'll be cleaning your paint and waxing at the same time.

But, it was a lot of work. Now a days I would use a DA and a finishing polish like Optimum Finish Polish.

I definitely learned my lesson, beware of the turtle! Is there a polish/swirl remover that i can use prior to the bf gloss enchancer polish? Since its very light to no abrasiveness, I would like to go one step deeper and remove some of the minor swirls while im at it.

for light swirls (even if there are a lot of them), just going with WG Finishing Glaze has worked for me. I should have listened and started out with the least aggressive product when I first got started... was using TSR and then the FG, and realized all I really needed was the FG in most places.

When it comes to creating a beautiful finish you can't beat machine polishing. It's one of those things that if you were here in person and let me show you what can be done by hand and a lot of work and what can be done by machine you would want the machine.

I would like to go one step deeper and remove some of the minor swirls while im at it.

As far as a polish you can use by hand to remove minor swirls, "yes", there's a number of them that are safe.

By the word "safe" I mean you can rub these product by hand over a clear coat paint system and remove defects without leaving any defects. It used to not be this way but a lot of really good abrasive technology has been introduced and now you can actually work by hand on clear coats.


Since it sounds like you're comfortable with the Blackfire line of products, pick up a bottle of their SRC Polish and use this with a clean soft microfiber foam applicator pad and work a section about 16" x 16" at a time. Work each section for 2-3 minutes with a fast hand polishing motion. When through, wipe the residue off and then move onto a new section and overlap a little into the previous section.

When you use a polish like this you don't want to follow it with the Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish as this would be redundant and the GPC won't improve the results created by the SRC Polish.

Do a panel a day and wax each panel after you've finished polishing it or start on a Saturday morning and tackle the entire project at one time. These are pro-grade polishes and that means they are water soluble, not protection is left behind, so be sure to wax after application.

Thanks for all the schooling, I'm enjoy reading your articles. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just get a polisher, specifically the GG. Do i need to use the SRC duo's or can i get off with just finishing polish? The paint has spider webs(mostly rear passenger quarter panel) and swirls. The drivers side looks a lot better.

After correction is it necessary to do the glaze? Or just go straight to WDPP?

So sort of something like this, if i don't need the src compound:

I've been teaching people how to machine polish paint and detail cars all of my life now, (hard to believe sometimes), and I've NEVER met anyone that regretted getting into machine polishing.

In fact, the most common comment I read goes like this,

I should have stepped up to machine polishing YEARS ago!


Seriously.

I'd say "yes". You can probably get away with the Blackfire SRC Finishing Polish. This is a "Fine Cut Polish" so it doesn't offer a lot of cut but that makes it very safe and it's also VERY easy to use and learn how to machine polish with. Let me put it this way...

You can't make a mistake with this product.


You can also use it with a polishing pad and even a cutting pad for more cut "if needed". Or use it with a finishing pad if that will get the job done. You can modify how aggressive a product is by the pad you choose to use.

You can also go over trouble areas one time, two times maybe even three times and get the results you're looking for. When it's you're own cars and you're not doing this for a job, then it's your time. So take your time and you'll enjoy the results even more.

I ordered the products and ready for battle A quick review with pads:

Wash-Megs GC shampoo
Clay- WG clay combo kit
Wash Megs GC shampoo
SRC finishing polish-LC Tangerine 6.5" pad
WDPP with LC Crimson 6.5" Pad-How long to dry if say I want to add an extra coat? Will it beneficial?

Next day coat of Midnight sun carnauba

How does that look?

I think I may order BF SRC compound just in case, I admit that seeing those posts about how tough the GM coats are is a little intimidating!

Never got around to ordering the src compound and now I'm polishing car...the finishing polish doesn't cut the micro scratches/swirls. Picked up m105/205 combo since I got this weekend off to detail the ext. Any tips for the m compound/polish?
