AG,

I have a new client that I'm meeting with this week to go over options of detailing. Good part is, my friend babysits this persons dogs while they are away, allowing me to check out the cars a while back.

This time around, the car of interest is a 2015 Bentley Continental GT convertible. It is a lease and is barely driven. It is mint condition, however the owner insists on getting it detailed.

This is a very wealthy person, and I don't want to low ball the quote to make it seem like low quality work. What would the experts recommend I do in this situation?

Well... we don't know what needs to be done to it. Do you do this full time, as a hobby? I would think the minimum be a wash, clay, and seal. If they are wanting an engine bay, interior, and paint correction that could be anywhere from $300 - $1200 depending on your market and expertise.

Sorry thats not much of a help, but we really need more information.

Sorry for not being more specific. I am in college but this is my sole source of income, so full time.

This car is nearly spotless, garaged when not being driven, and has less than 1,000 miles in 7 months of ownership. It does not need a claying, and to be honest, has no swirls. Tires where shined, windows spotless, and dealership paper floor mats still in there.

I charge around 280-400 for black luxury car 1 step with a quality wax/sealant. Normally, these cars are somewhat neglected.

This is the first time someone is urgently prompting me to get their car detailed, however it is nearly spotless.

I don't really understand your issue. Do you not want to do it because it's clean or do you not think you can make it look better? Regardless of the condition it's in, you're still going to have to do all the same stuff as you would if it weren't "nearly spotless" right? So charge him what you'd normally charge. And make it look better than it does currently and maybe you'll get a regular maintenance customer out of it.

Charge them what you would usually charge anyone! The fact that it's a "luxury" car shouldn't matter.

Be fair and consistent with your pricing, because word of mouth travels faster than anything!

If it's spotless, then maybe this is an opportunity to pitch them a coating so they can maintain it's flawlessness.

You have to see the damage and how many hours it will take I doubt the paint is perfect lol.

I'm sure its clean on the inside just a spruce up.

Charge for the polishing and it will need a engine clean trunk clean vaccum light stain removal

Every car needs to be at least clayed so that it is mechanically decontaminated. You won't believe what comes off paint from claying even a brand new car that is sitting in a dealer's lot. If you are going to wax the paint, you don't want those contaminants floating around the surface.

You have to feel him out,is he super anal then you charge,If he is conservative with his cash and being the car is brand new ,don't come up with some crazy number just because he has money,There's 2 ways to make money in this business ,over charge some crazy price than if you do the job and the customer sees a little streak in the glass you will never here from him again.I charge accordingly to the job I get paid for my time ,customer is happy ,I'm happy ,and I will gain 2 or 3 people, and that's what keeps my business going.I see detailers charge a guy a crazy number just because he has a plane, and believe me there not stupid, and that's why I'm busy, and there out of business.

What did the customer ask for?

Have you seen the car? If so, what do you think it needs?

Nothing wrong with telling someone that the car doesn't need much. Tell them what you think it needs, then deliver that. Be honest.

Maybe they're feeling you out to see how trustworthy you are for potential future business.

Hoytman you are correct.Im honest all the time ,people work hard for there money, and tired of being ripped off.I know in 10 min if iam closing a deal.If some lady pulls up in a single stage white Camry that's faded,I don't even say a price I do a small quick sample ,then I hit them up,and everyday there eyes go right to the sample, and bam they call me ,detailing is educational,in there mind it's a 10 dollar jar of wax why are you charging me all that, that's the way there programmed .Its all about educating, expectations and not overpricing yourself and have to say image,I got a ford transit all decked out as soon as they see it they want to know more, cars pricing ,etc. Then I get rift raff asking for a card cause now that they have no job at 50 there gonna want to compete against you out of the back of there dirty dented up 10 year old Nissan Altima .

i have a word here: is no perfection, period! and i will not chase it , i wanna be sane , and enjoy what i do.

plus after max 1 day on one car , i don`t wanna see it for at least couple days/weeks.
i get tired of same car over and over. :dblthumb2:

Same here I get bored of the same car,I'm to busy to work on a car all week ,I don't know people can slave over a car for 50 hrs .I would rather get my 80 to 150 for a 3 or 4 hr detail ,and move forward.Thats just me I run into a problem with rv they take forever and gets boring.

On top of that he will say why am I gonna spend 1500 on a rented car

You charge $1500 for a coating? You said the paint is perfect so worst case scenario you could hit it with SF4000 or PBL Cleanser Polish. And PBL is so inexpensive and easy to apply I only charge $150 for the coating. Even CQ or GC should only be 300-400. I'm not sure where you're getting the $1500 figure from.
