Hi guys,
Just got a brand new 328 in estoril blue..which I then found out was dinged in the rear passenger door :( I've attached some pictures but I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how best I could fix this myself using detailing tools. Thank you so much!

Is that bare metal we’re looking at? What do you mean you found out? The ding was there when you bought the car? Or how’d it happen?

Do you think it was dinged at the dealership? You may be able to contact them and they may fix it as a goodwill gesture. I had this happen to me back in 2006 with a lease vehicle and they did fix it since the agreed it most likely happened on the lot.

If that does not work, I can highly suggest the Dr. ColorChip repair kit. While this is a bit larger than normal chips it is designed for, with diligence and patience it should work. Plus, you will undoubtedly come across front end chips as the years go on where it will come in handy.

Hey guys,
Sorry for not clarifying - I had bought the car and driving it a few days and the ding was found after a grocery trip today. I think that is paint transfer from the other car - how do I remove it first before doing anything for my side?

Ah. Okay. If that is paint transfer and you do not have a polisher, I would try an over the counter light scratch remover and a foam applicator. Meguiars ScratchX may do the trick. Just remember to reapply your favorite wax as the ScratchX will certainly remove it.

Meguiars Ultimate Compound and a microfiber applicator. Just make sure you clean the spot before you do it. If it’s what you think it is it’ll come off fairly easy by hand.

That doesn't look like paint transfer to me, but it's hard to tell from the low resolution photos. If you run your fingernail across it, do you catch an edge?

Hi guys. There is definitely an element of paint transfer but there is also bare metal. Can I put touch up paint on the bare metal or do I need to put primer on there first?

Don’t get ahead of yourself.. Did you try the Ultimate Compound by hand yet? 1st do that and see what you’re dealing with.

Very true. After polishing the area to remove the paint transfer, the spot may look very different...hopefully smaller with the real damaged area being clearly defined.

While you are polishing, I'd be careful Since that damage is right on the crease of the door panel, the paint thickness may be thinner than flatter areas which tend to get a thicker application of paint.

I have a few small dings on one of my cars and i have been considering trying one of the glue type dent pullers. Eastwood had a kit for sixty bucks. You can also find them for much cheaper on amazon. Has anyone had luck with trying these?

These are small dings with no paint damage.

I used the Keco Robo Mini Lifter to glue pull small dents from 2 vehicles. Like anything else, you need to research the tools and glue to get the right products for the job at hand. On my wife's 2015 Durango I pulled a small hail dent on the upper section of the driver's side rear door. I needed to use the smallest glue tab in the set I bought and glue and pull this about 6 times to remove the dent. It is absolutely impossible to find where the dent was now.

On my 2015 Ram I had a parking lot ding on the driver's side front fender. This was more of a small crease from a door edge and I used a larger glue tab and over pulled it a bit. This then required knock downs and a PDR line board to do the job right. I spend about 5 hours in total working on the fender and removed about 95% of the dent. It is definitely wise to practice your technique before trying this on something critical. There are a lot of videos that show the process and having the right tools is a must.

Vince, thanks for the reply. I think i will go ahead and order one. I will stay away from the really cheap units you can find on line. I will find one with decent reviews and hope for the best.

The dents I hope to remove are not deep and there is no paint damage so I am hopeful I can achieve decent results. I will practice on my daughters Jeep first. She has had it for a couple of years and I know it has never seen soap so she would not notice if i damage anything ;)

You could touch it up with paint to make it less noticeable.

Agree, try touch up and see how it looks. I don't think it's worth trying filler yet.
