My dad had a whole cup of Starbucks coffee spill in the back floor of his car. Apparently the top wasn't on correctly. A couple hours after it happened I jumped on this forum and searched for coffee stains. Some people mentioned Folex so I grabbed some at home depot. I've been using the folex, some hot water in a spray bottle, a brush, and a wet dry vac for awhile now and don't see much improvement. The mat I used a couple products on (folex, shout, hydrogen peroxide, oxyclean), alot of scrubbing, and a pressure washer. It came out okay, you can still see where the stain was on the top right hand side but it will do. But I can't get the stain on the carpet in the car to even lighten. Any ideas? Was thinking of a tannin spot remover but can't find any locally.

White vinegar then finish with apc. I have used Meguiars wheel brightener on some very bad ones with good results.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the Vinegar next. I did read that APC might set the stain in? Wondering if I should try that as a last resort?

Definitely try the vinigar first. I think I have read you can try it with some heat, like placing an iron set on low on top of your vinigar dampened towel.

Hopefully the Oxyclean and hydrogen peroxide(both fairly basic) did not set it.

Really? Not sure about oxyclean, but hydrogen peroxide solutions are normally acidic due to the stabilizers that are used. Oxidizers are actually pretty effective on coffee stains. But I'd still get something specifically acidic, find a carpet cleaning supplier and get a fiber rinse, that is acidic and acts as a tannin remover.

Oxyclean works great on coffee stains, heck I use it to clean my coffee pot.

Oxyclean and peroxide were only on the car mat. I used folex first, then shout, then hydrogen peroxide, then oxyclean. Honestly couldn't tell you which one helped the most. But it did come out decently.

The actual car carpet where the stain is very visible has only been treated with folex so far without good results.

Would a bissell big green from lowes somehow give different results from me spraying with folex and water and then using a wet/dry vac to extract?

I'll look for a carpet cleaning supplier but I don't know if any are local. There is a janitorial supply store, I wonder if they may have something. Do I need something with Enzymes in it to break down the stain? I'm assuming the coffee has a little sugar and soy milk in it.

I'm going to try to get something acidic/ tannin spot remover locally and if not I'll try the vinegar next and post some pics.

Where are you located?

Sorry, I was wrong. Hydrogen Peroxide is slightly acidic.

I haven't had much trouble with coffee stains using my little bissell. They have come out with CG Fabric Clean and CG Lightning Fast. I would definitely recommend dropping $100 to get one of those little machines. They are great for little messes around the house too. Invaluable whether you detail a lot or not IMO.

Yes! Give them a shot.

Janitorial Supply Store was a bust. when I asked for either a Tannin Spot Remover or a acidic fibre rinse they looked at me like I had 2 heads. When I explained it was a coffee stain in my dads car they said to go to a auto detailing place.

Audios - I'm in Staten Island, NYC

WDMAccord- I was looking at one of those Bissells just to have around in the future, but for this stain I thought a spray bottle and my Ridgid WD4070 (5 hp) could do the same thing for now.

I wasn't able to try anything yesterday but I'll have some time today. Should I try the Vinegar Solution or just wait till I get some Tannin Remover somewhere? Can the Vinegar Solution hurt/set the stain?

PM sent.

Vinegar is acetic acid so it's acting like a tannin remover. Just smells bad and not the most effective, should not harm a fabric, I throw some in the wash with my MF towels all the time.

you need a tanning remover.

I think Megs make one.

I get all my carpet cleaning supply from my local janitorial supply house so I don't really use any "detailing" products.
I get my carpet cleaning advise from professional carpet cleaners.

Never got a chance to reply. But a week after my last post I tried everything but an Tannin Remover and an APC. Ordered a coffee and tea stain remover from Amazon as I can't find anything locally. Its Carbona Coffee and Tea stain remover. I'm thinking its a tannin remover since its geared towards coffee, tea, and wine.
