First detailing post here.
It's been a long time since I've done any real detailing work, but would like to give it a shot on my wife's daily driver in preparation to sell the car. It's got 220k+ miles on it so it's got some wear, but still runs great.
The car's white paint is pretty badly oxidized with very little shine, especially in front. From the rear door back it's not as bad; the car looks to have been partially painted at some point before we got it. Also, there are some pretty stubborn tree sap marks that I need to get out. I've tried claying a small area and it removes the bump from the tree sap, but leaves a small brown dot in the paint.
Right now I have the basics + a DeWalt rotary polisher that I used to use when my dad owned a body shop. At that time, I used 3M products only. Now I have some questions.
1. What backers are recommended for this polisher? Size?
2. What pads should I use? I see a lot of colors. Do I really need all of them? It seems orange is pretty popular.
3. What products should I be using in what order? I know there are multiple brands and types, but some guidance on types would be great.
As mentioned before, this is a daily driver that stays outside 24/7. I'd like to practice some of my skills and get the car looking renewed. I'd also like to have some long-lasting protection if possible that's easy to maintain since the car doesn't get any attention from my wife.
