I found this site searching for ways to take care of my 2007 Black Toyota Tundra 4x4 lifted with black wheels. I've never owned a black vehicle and I've been so stressed at the amount of scratches that I have on my 4 month old truck. I been informed that, which I knew, that all colors have scratches they are just more noticeable on black finishes. I'm a member of tundrasolutions and 1 guy who referred me to this site has been more than helpful. My goal is to learn how to properly maintain the look of my black truck. I've never detailed a truck or car so I looking to get started with you guys help. It's going to be a challenge because we are at the MX tracks weekly, pulling my boat to the bay every chance I get and I love the beach, all of these environments have a lot of abrasive elements. I wanted silver but my kids wanted the black, dad it will look sick. This is the setup that I'm leaning towards: Porter Cable 7424 Polisher, 5.5 inch Dual Action Pad Combo, 3 Pack-Gray&Blue Finishing CCS Smart Pads, Menzerne Intro Kit, Duragloss #105, Poorboys World Natty's Paste Wax-Blue, 6 Pack Cobra Forest Green Edgeless MPC's, and washing items. Comments or suggestions because I'm going to need it, there are soooooo many products,techniques and opinions that I'm confused now. Maybe have my truck stolen and buy a silver one, Nah!!!!!
 
Welcome to the site. Take a look at anything that Totoland Mach has done. He is the black master, bar none. You will like the PC and it looks like the products that you are selecting will be great for your truck. Just remember we all love pics, so when you get her all cleaned up post up the results.
 
Now I'm more confused than ever. I did some business for a guy who owns a detail shop and he told me to drop my truck off at his place and he would fix me up. Just picked it up, I wanted to just star at the finish, no more scratches and its sunny here. I asked him what he did to it, wash and wax only!!!!! I asked him is that all it needs, he replied its a new truck. See I had asked him about compounding, polishing, sealing and waxing and he replied not on a new truck, just wax for now.
 
Welcome!!!! What you plan to order looks great to start off with no doubt. Menzerna is awsome. Many people swear its the best polish made-good choice! The PC is a great DA and has a fairly easy learning curve. I dont know if I saw WHITE Lake Country CCS Polishing pad on your list- I highly reccomend it. Because your truck is pretty new you probably wont want to use anything with more cut then a white pad. Other then that you have a great list. You are gonna love this site and your truck is gonna look BETTER then new-believe me! You are gonna sit back and look at the endless reflections in the Black paint and think -"Black was a great choice!" Good Luck!

I wouldnt Compound a new truck but I would Polish it to get rid of minor scratches and swirls. All the guy that detailed your truck did was COVER up the swirls/scratches with wax. Rest assured-they will be back after a couple rains or after a wash etc. The key is to remove the imprefections on the paint surface and then protect the surface with a good carnuba wax or a sealant. Then, to prevent more swirls/scratches, you need to learn the proper washing technique implementing the 2 bucket system.
Another thing -you are going to save money in the long run by making the initial investment and learning to Properly polish/protect your paint-instead of paying someone to cover up the problem just to have it return over and over.

Take your time and continue to learn. The most important thing as lethalslx1 has already stated it is to remove the imprefections an properly wash your truck to prevent new ones.
 
Yeah these forums are awesome, headache savers. After the detail on Friday and your right he just washed it and applied some cheap wax, Sat we went to the MX track and OMG it was covered in dust, went home and it rained for an hour or so. Sunday, dust gone Hello water spots, it looked horrible. I tried wiping her down with a Quick Detailer, looks better but now has a funky residue all over it that can only be seen when the sun hits it.
