Hey Mike!

Just picked up a bottle of M105 for the first time, will be using it later today... I've been using 3D, Angel wax and Sonax.. I know a little late to try M105 hahaha.. anyways, I've seen this compound to be so successful when in the right hands, I've seen a lot of amateurs have bad experiences at first causing them to move on to something else.

Any tips or tricks for a first user?

Really appreciate a response!

Kyle

Hi Kyle,

You didn't include which type of tool you're using or the pad type?

Rotary buffer with wool pad?

Orbital polisher with microfiber or foam pads?

Most important aspects of using M105 would be,

Use the ample amount of product to buff a section with. I've never bought into using "pea sized drops". That's TOO little product to even simply provide enough lubrication AND abrasives for 16" x 16" or 20" by 20" section of paint if you're going to make 6-8 section passes.

So when starting with a new pad, prime the pad and add 3-4 DIME sized drops like I show here,

How to prime a foam pad when using a DA Polisher

Besides that,

CLEAN YOUR PADS OFTEN

I don't normally type in all capital letters so feel free to read into this...

Then follow the basics,

  1. Work small sections at a time.
  2. Overlap your passes
  3. Start with firm pressure, finish out with light pressure
  4. Wipe the residue off immediately
  5. Clean your pad often

Try not to work on hot paint or work in hot temperatures.

The issue most people have with M105 is dusting and hard wipe-off, follow the tips above and you should be okay.

:)

IMO M105 is not an easy compound to use for a novice. There are a lot of easier compounds (Megs Ultimate Compound, M101, Menz 400, HD). When I say easier, I mean more work time, less dusting and easier removal.
