Hi my name is Scott, I am looking at investing in my first real DA the Flex 3401. I have five vehicles I need to get back into top shape. I have always took pride in keeping my vehicles nice and clean. Washing every weekend (my neighbors always tell me your gonna wash the paint off those rigs). But when I was at the Extreme 4x4 shop that has done the work to my truck and jeep and the owner told me I needed to polish my truck I was like WHAT!! I wash it 2 to 3 times a month. Then I started to really look at it and thought dang it does need a good detail. So I started looking at all my rigs, sure enough washing them all the time wasn't getting it done anymore. So after spending the last couple of weeks researching and calling AG (talked to Ray twice). Called Duragloss talked to Bill (one of the owners) I'm feeling pretty good about the info I received. I'm looking at buying the following products.
Flex 3401 kit, Duragloss 503, Lake County 6.5 CCS pads:3 Orange pads, 3 white pads, 3 blue pads, DP pad rejuvenator, Diamondite headlight kit, The RejeX paint sealant maybe, I have left Ray a message to call me as my issue is that I don't have room to get three of the vehicles into the garage. So I'm not sure about the RejeX even though it looks like a great product I need something that I can work with outside. Maybe another Duragloss product like DG 101 or DG 105.
Vehicles:
2005 GMC Crew Cab Duramax 4x4 - Red
2004 Unlimited Jeep Wrangler - Red
2001 GS 300 - Pearl White
1998 Grand Vectra 35' Class A RV - White/Turquoise
1995 Ski Centurion - Mostly Red w. Black & White
Most all are in good shape except the boat it has mild to medium oxidation. This is why Ray suggested the Flex over the PC and the size of the RV. I have always read a bunch of reviews before I bought stuff and in the last year or so have found a lot of great info and have fixed a couple of issues by reading different blogs. It's great all of the info you share with each other. I have to admit this is the first forum I've joined, so sorry about it being long but I figured if I want my rigs to look as great as yours I would need to get into the game. Theres a lot of info and opinions out there and you have to start somewhere. So I look forward to all the great tips. It's a big investment but, not as much as paying someone else to detail all of them. So if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know. Does AG have any discounts that include Polishers/kits or is the Labor Day Sale as good as it gets?
Thanks, Scott

:welcome:

You have definitely come to the right place if you are looking for info to help get your vehicles back into tip-top shape and then learn how to keep them that way.

The products you are starting out with sound like an awesome first order. I have never used the Flex but from what I have heard from others it is a great machine and should work perfectly for you. Most people freak out at the thought of letting such a violent machine touch their paint until you realize how easy they are to control with proper technique. I love the CCS pads. The only thing I would recommend is to throw a couple yellow pads in the mix. You will want them for when you are dealing with the oxidation on the boat.

I would also recommend picking up some of the basics if you don't own them already: grit guards for you wash and rinse buckets, some quality microfiber towels, and maybe some of the forum favorites just because nobody should be without them lol: M105/205 and Collinite 845.

Happy detailing!!! :buffing:

Thanks for the welcome and input. I thought that also, about the Oxidation/ Yellow pads. But Ray said I would be fine with the orange and DG503. The Oxidation is not all over its more in places and like a slight milky haze. Hopefully that makes sense. I do have some of the products you mentioned and will look at the others.
Thanks Again
Scott

Welcome. What part of CA are you in? I'm in OC and would be happy to help you out. I use a Dewalt rotary and PC for a DA. Hard to beat a Flex if it's going to be your only buffer, one day I'll get one but these two polishers have served me well. Many shy away from the rotary because if used incorrectly it can damage paint. The rotary is not something to fear. Nobody said you have to crank the thing to 20,000 rpm with a wool pad.

Sounds like you have lots of projects comming up. I'm just a weekend warrior but there are plenty of professional detainers here in CA that will help you out.

Thanks, Sac, I do (projects) and I have 2 auto parts store 9" orbitals, I have used for some years now but they only seem to be good for putting on and taking off wax. So I wanted to get a great tool but feeling that I'm not ready to jump to a rotary. If I had any of my old trucks I could practice on, it would be different. The boat is the only 1 I'm not as concerned about. The truck and jeep are hopefully lifetime rigs. The Flex was recommended over the PC do to the boat and RV.
After reading a lot of reviews/comments I think it is the right choice even though it is triple the cost. I would rather pay more and have a tool I love than buy something that just doesn't do the job as well as another tool would. With that, don't get me wrong I have dollar store tools for that once a year need. No need to spend your money on the unneeded things in life. But I want to buy a polisher I will Love, so I appreciate the feed back.
