I decided I needed a dual bucket dolly and knew there had to be a way to make a decent one with a small footprint. My goal was to spend about 25 dollars for materials. So, I got an idea when I saw furniture moving dollies for sale at HD.
This is the basics of what I started with (Home Depot, about $25):
First I removed the carpeting on the dolly and all the staples that held it in. Next, I cut the 1x4" board to the correct size and attached it to the furniture dolly so the buckets would sit level, I also had to extend the length of the dolly 3.5" each side to fit the buckets. Then I carefully measured and templated where the corner braces would go so there would be a snug fit on the bucket.
At that point I had this:
Then, I bought a hinge and some furniture stops and figured out a way to make a brake so it won't roll away. Also, attached a rubber bungee cord to use as a pull
This is what those parts looked like:
Brake off:
Brake on:
The finished product:
Picture with buckets brake on.
This turned out better than I expected and is supper sturdy the furniture dolly wheels are made for several hundred pounds, so they have no problem rolling full buckets around. I used about 50 wood screws of various lengths to attach all the extra wood.
*** Thanks for looking.
