Im interested in finding a decent home surveillance camera system for $500 or less. I would only need two cameras but im aware most systems have at least 4 cameras. The primary use of these cameras will be during the day while we are away from home, to monitor any vehicle or persons entering my property. The cameras could be mounted discretely on my home, but being able to stretch one out to a tree on the treeline would be a big plus.

I figured at least one of you guys dabbled in this kind of thing and might could point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help!

A brother in law purchased a kit from Sam's that had multiple cameras that he could monitor from his phone for under $500. You have to wire everything to the main unit so have run cameras in eaves, etc. to get door, driveway, rear, etc.

Take a look at Monoprice.com. They have a good electronics selection a good prices.

I bought mine from tiger direct. I purchased everything separate. I got the 600 tv lines which have better clarity during the day and night. I did the wiring which was very easy. I purchased longer wire due to where I was putting the cameras. Everything came out to 480 installed. I then purchased an Ethernet cable to see the activity from my phone. So that went over budget of the 500 but to give you an idea.
