How do I set up my business so I have work every week and make money every week? Isn't detailing like a once a half year thing? Do I offer an initial detail and then offer a wash as maintenance every week? I'm talking one step detailing here for average customers.

First focus on creating a base of affluent customers, people with disposable income.

After you detail their cars the first time set them up on a regular maintenance schedule for each of their cars.

Once a week
Twice a month
Once a month

Depends on the customer, the car and how they use the car. For example Real-Estate agents like their cars cleaned weekly as they are always taking out clients to view properties.

Then set them up on monthly billing.

Now you have a source of consistent, regular income at the beginning of the month.

:)

Ok so that weekly or bi monthly cleaning would be just a wash with basic interior upkeep right? What if one week they take their car through a mudhole? Do I charge for a full detail?

Correct.

When I was at Meguiar's two different detailers took care of all the cars driven by upper management. All these cars are black.

One week they wash (using the gentle approach obviously), clean windows, touch up tires, vacuum interior.

Next week they wash, wax, clean windows, touch up tires and vacuum interior

So basically an Express Detail one week and the next week an Express Detail plus a machine applied coat of Gold Glass Wax, which if you're good with a PC and you've already did the initial detail on these cars takes about 20 minutes to apply and wipe off.

Make sense?

If they are a regular customer and driving the car through a mud hole one week is an exception to the norm then just wash off the mud when you wash the car.

That's called,

Under promise and over deliver. Good business practice. I teach this in my 3-day detailing class.

Do you mean something else when you typed,

:dunno:

Well I live in louisiana where people take their cars through mud just for fun. But I guess if someone is paying for their car or truck to be detailed it would be uncommon for them to go do that lol.
