How do YOU clean carpets?

How do YOU clean the carpet? Each step you do?

Ive got some DP total interior cleaner that says it works on carpets. On a mildly dirty carpet I was gonna do the following.

- Vacuum.
- Light spray with DP.
- Agitate it some with a brush.
- Vacuum.

Is this technique fine to do? What do you more experienced guys do? Will the DP stuff leave a residue or anything behind even after I vacuum it all up? Im not gonna be soaking the carpet or anything just a light spray and agitate to really get it clean and pull out any odors or anything like that and leave it smelling clean and fresh.

Thats exactly what I do for interior carpet. Except I use a brush attatched to my PC. The DP WILL NOT leave behind any residue at all, so no need for water or anything. Just follow those steps exactly.
 
I use 303 Aero space cleaner, its awsome!

Vacuum
Spray with 303 AC (dillution depending on how bad it is)
agitate with brush
then spray with water a few times to get all the cleaner out
air dry

i vacum all loose dirt then shampoo brush and extract with mytee 8070 heated

agitate - nylon hand brush right now, will be picking one up for the PC with next order
extract with hot water and bissell little green (I don't have to do it for a living, but it works well for me)
