Would Simple Green be safe to use? Are they're other products that work better? The only thing that I have tried so far is ONR and shampoo using a tire brush but that didn't work.

You need a good APC or tire cleaner. Usually these will be alkaline, rather than neutral products. Optimum Power Clean is one, but you can use Amazing Roll Off, Eagle One A2Z, etc. You may need to perform several cleanings, scrubbing until the suds aren't brown any more.

You will find once you scrub down to a clean surface, that your tire dressings will last much longer.

Are those products safe on rims that are clear coated?

yes, just wet down the wheel first so if you get any cleaner on it it's diluted.

For OTC chemicals I have had very good luck with Meguiar's Hot Rims all wheel and tire cleaner. The foam almost instantly turns brown when sprayed on dirty tires as it dissolves all the crud off of them.

Good to hear I just ordered some yesterday.

ARO is completely safe on rims as long as they are wet first. Use it all the time for several things.
I would no tuse any APC or wheel cleaner anywhere near rims if they were not wet and dno not let them dry with it on.

My favorite tire cleaners are . . .
  • Amazing Roll Off (ARO)
  • Optimum Power Clean (OPC)
  • Meguiar's Super Degreaser

I use the Mothers all wheel and tire cleaner. Non acidic and drys spot free. Just apply to tire and scrub and hose off

Iv'e been using a 3 parts H20 to 1 part Zep Citrus cleaner solution for cleaning tire and wheel assemblies.

Mothers Tire/Wheel cleaner or OPC have a good chance to get with one cleaning. I have had less luck with Meg's APC+ 4:1 or ARO.

+1 Mothers All Wheel and Tire is great stuff. I bought it for cleaning wheels, but it generated a lot of brown foam on the tires, and both looked great when I was done.

Westley's Bleche-Whit has always worked well for me. Available just about everywhere.

Any good APC will do the trick (the best, probably, Optimum Power Clean). TUF SHINE Tire Cleaner is also very efficient.

Just checked the bottle, and I apologize, but the stuff I should be raving about is Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel and Tire, not the Mother's cleaner. Guess I'm not so good with remembering one M from another.

Amazing Roll Off or Brown Royale will put a boot in those blooms!

To really get tires cleaned properly you should scrub them twice.

The first with your tire brush...

For the second use an old microfiber towel to scrub while rinsing.

Cee Dog, when are we going to see that Brown Royale comparison?

OP, I used to have this issue with my Michelins when I used tire shines but then I switched to one that both cleans and shines and the browning has never popped up again.

Cleaning the "brown bloom" from tires...each and every time it raises its ugly head...
really improves the overall appearance of a vehicle. And it's difficult to completely remove, at times.

That's just a couple of reasons I recommend to avoid the below "detailing-product" like the plague!
