This idea to make this thread came to me because there is a guy around my age (23) in my neighborhood and he goes through cars quick.

Since I have been paying attention. I have seen him drive a ford ranger, 4th gen mustang v6, 8th gen civic, then the ranger came back, 3rd gen mustang 5.0, and now his most recent car a 2000ish bmw 328i. The family has only been in our neighborhood for 2 years.

They are definitely a car family. Dad has a black expedition, matte black tacoma, black wrangler, and a black suped up mustang foxbody 5.0.

I am curious if anyone else here does this. If I had the money, I would definitely find it fun switching out cars, but I enjoy my 3.5altima enough to keep it for a several more years till I can justify a new ride.

What about you guys?

I've had my Subaru Legacy GT almost 8 years. Not quite 100k miles on it yet so I hope to keep it another couple of years.

I drive them till the wheels fall off.I have 4 vehicals and one is paid off the other three will be in october.

My truck is the only vehical that I've purchased brand new......its 2001 and now has 113,000 on the clock everything we have was purchased used.I do 99% of all maintance and repairs myself.

I hate car payments so I do the best I can to stay away from them.

I've kept my last two vehicles 7 years. I got bored with both, a black 1989 Nissan Maxima and a red 1999 Honda Accord. The car I currently have (1999 silver Lexus GS400) I've had for about 2 years. I really want a manual and so I see myself getting another car in 3-5 years.

It seams like we keep our drivers around 6 yrs or so. A lot is based on mileage and reliability though.

I still have my second vehicle, an 86 Silverado. I've had it for 26 yrs.

-Between no longer being baby-ish...To being responsible in having/raising babies: 2-3 years.

-Afterwards, and 'til present date: 14-41 years.

Oh! the impetuousness of the chronologically young!

I go thru cars. I've had a 08 Suzuki sx4 , 05 c230 Benz , 04 Vw tourage and now I got 2012 Suzuki kizashi sls o and two trams am ws6 that I sold after my son was born

'99 Crown Vic bought new; '06 Tacoma bought new. These are our daily drivers. I have bought and sold tons of cars, trucks and motorcycles ( project/hobby ) over the years, but our dd we keep for a long time.

I had my 08 Accord EX for 2 years. I put close to 75K miles on it and when it got time for new tires, I said screw it and got the 2010 TSX. I figured since it had alot of miles on it for a 2 year old car, I should probably get rid of it while I could still get some dough for it. I don't know how some people do it...I guess they just got the dough to do it.

I have had my audi since 2004, it only has 24,000 miles on it

Looks like most of you guys keep your cars decently long.

As for me (I never even posted mine lol), my first car was 1997 Ford Taurus GL. I had that for about 2.5 years and it needed more repairs than it was worth. So I got rid of it on craigslist then got my 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5. It has alot of life left, so I dont see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. Its been pretty good. Only repair it has needed so far was a new ac pump and lines.

In the last 18 years, I have had 3 cars. A 1994 Grand Priz, A 2006 Nissan Altima, and my current vehicle, a 2011 Acura TL.

I pay them off quickly and take care of them, so it has paid off for me. My wife has also had only 3 cars during the same time period.

I love vehicles, but I also love to save money, too. Keep your ride for a while and you will have a lot more money.

my wife and I have been married 13 years and here are some of the cars that I can rember.
96 dodge dakota,97 camaro, 97 taurus, 98 corolla, 99 jeep grand cherokee, 00 civic,00 cadillac catera, 01 cavalier, 01 grand cherokee, 04 mazda tribute, 04 gmc sierra z71, 05 jeep liberty, 06 silverado, 08 dodge durango, 07 chevy uplander, 09 durango, 09 exploreer, 67 camaro, and the current cars 07 subaru impreza, 10 jeep compass. as you can tell we don't keep them very long. but every time we sell one we have ended up making money.the only one I miss is the 67 camaro.

Had a 1997 Grand AM GT used (2000-2007)
Mazda Mazda3 (2007-2012)
Volkswagen GTI (2012- )

Wife: Honda Civic (2005-2012)
Subaru Forester (2012- )

Both had some used beaters before we met, but that's all the majors.
Right now that puts us at a 5-6 year average.

I've had my Olds for 7 years. It has 151,000+ miles on it right now - I'd like to get another 50,000 miles out of it before I get a different car.

I generally keep my vehicles until the wheels fall off. My last last two cars have had well over 200k on them before buying a newer one. (One of them, a 1993 Legacy GT Wagon had 280k on it).

I had my truck for 3 years,( was my dads before) has 210k. My dad has his excursion he bought brand new in 2000, it now has 190k. And won't be selling it ever. (good memories in that truck). Thinking of a new truck, but I still love mine.
