I'm one of those guys that always seems to buy the biggest and baddest machine out there, but how much vacuum do I really need? I don't have a steamer or extractor yet so I will be using the vacuum to dry carpets etc after cleaning. How much lift/Hp does it take to do the job effectively? What vacuum would you recommend?

Big fan of the Rigid vacuums, much better than ShopVac IMO, same specs, runs you $80 at home depot.

I have a rigid, I like the actual vaccum, but I hear the shop vacs brand is usa made

Do you need it portable with wheels or wall mounted, if you go with the wall mounted look at the vaccumaid garage vac with 50 foot hose.

I have 3 shop vacs. One wet/dry vac that is only 3hp. One older roll around one that is 2.5hp and a newer Brute model that is 5hp. I would definitely recommend something around 5hp for interiors..it makes the work a lot easier than the lesser models.

I have a Craftsman 6.0 hp shop vac.

Sucking Power Is Incredible.

However it is pretty Loud

I personally wouldn't want any less

but I'm sure there are plenty of 5 and 5.5 hp vacs that are just as powerful

I do really want a wall mount vac for my new enclosed trailer though.

Any wall mount vac owners care to chime in on what you use

I think I am going to get a shop vac with detachable leaf blower. The Craftsman one seems to be more powerful and $20 cheaper than the Rigid. My old shop vac was a Craftsman and I beat the hell out of it for years and it still worked great when I sold it. One of the wheels was acting up and it scratched my wood floors so it had to go!
