I do interior and exterior detailing only. How often do your customers return after their vehicle is detailed? What can I do to insure they return often and not just 2 times a year?
Also my prices are above everybody else's here in town so the average low income wont buy my services which im losing out on maybe 60% of the population . So what xan I offer that will allow me to get their business?

When you say detailed twice a year that sounds about right. Maybe target your current customers friends/family with a promo etc.If you are trying to target your competition lower paying customers offer a mini spiff detail. I don't think I would lower your prices for your current packages.

I was just thinking about this same thing. Seems like customers think that a detail last forever. I am going to work on educating them...that wax doesn't last forever. ....just like changing oil,you have to keep up on things.

I am also going to make a flyer with a maintenance wash/ wax package for them.....so mayb I can see them 2 or 3 times a year for a upkeep wash/wax/detail.

The fact is that a lot of detailing customers are going to be one time customers, no matter how great of job you do. A lot of people only pay for a detail when they have a new car, wanting to sell, before a big vacation, ect..

Having a good maintenance program is a good way to keep customers returning.

What about pushing a membership/or loyalty program. If you can give a discount for weekly or bi weekly washes and also discount on 2 details a year it might boost your repeat customers. Although you would be discounting your services slightly, you would also be maintaining the vehicle more frequently so it should make the details easier which which would equate to less product and less time spent, than a detail showing up twice a year that is absolutely filthy.

The good thing about charging more then others is you work less for the same money

:)

As they are paying; ask them how often they would like to have this service performed. You want customers who will do this on a monthly basis. 6 Months is waaaay to long between details unless it's your grandmothers Buick

:D

Do not try to compete with large commercial detailing operations...leave the average low income to go to them. They can "detail" a car faster than you can set up the two-bucket system. Stick to your prices and your market.

Get them to believe that only you should touch their vehicles, and not take them to the drive-thru. Surely they must do something to their vehicles in the six months between detailings. Do you offer maintenance washes?

Depends. It really varies depending on the clients daily lives and how many kids they have....lol.

I'd offer 20% OFF next detail service and put an expiration date 60 days out. Many times my clients have me book their other car after I'm done with their first one.

To increase market share, you'd have to lower your prices. Not saying I would, it's just simple economics. WalMart owns their market,....with lower prices. You said it yourself,....low income wont buy your services,....so I guess you'd have to lower your prices. Wouldn't that get their business?

Wanting more market share and then getting it can be eye-opening. Careful what you wish for.

If it was me, I'd offer something minimal, like headlight restoration for FREE with purchase of a detail package. People love when they get something for FREE. Or if you're really aggressive, offer a BOGO on washes only. They're quick, easy and it can get your name out there.

How long have you been in business? What's your competition like? How do you set yourself apart?

Most my customers come back ever couple months to get there cars cleaned in side and out. I have a maintenance for people I have done a complete detail on their car its half the price of the complete detail. They get that price if they bring it back every 4-8 weeks. It takes me half the time to do it and their happy with the price and job. It saves them paying me a lot of money doing it once a year or every 6 months.

Dont worry about the 60% and target the 40% of the population.. which is a lot.. more than what you can handle

im assuming you may have to travel outside your zone to hit the market you want?

Don't sell yourself short, there is a reason why your services cost more than the average detail shop.

At least that's what I tell myself :D

I'm going on my 3rd month and I've been doing great so far. My only competition is a few guys who work together to get as many cars out as possible in a day and they remove all seats which I don't. What sets me apart is I only do 1 car a day maybe 2 max so I can only focus on that car instead of rushing thru just to make quick bucks. I notice all my clients so far are over 30 yrs with nice luxury cars or family full sized vehicles.
