Hello, I'm new to being serious about detailing. I just bought (well I'm leasing right now) a new black truck. I have a bottle of Meguiars detailer and I'm not sure when to use it. Can I use it if the truck is just a little dirty? For example you wash it on Monday and it gets rained on and driven on wet paved roads Tuesday. It still looks pretty good bit up close you see 'dirt'. Detail it? I'm afraid I'll be pushing / rubbing the few dirt particles around on the paint while trying to get them off of it. Isnt that whole idea in avoiding swirls and scratches? I'm seeing all these 'between washes' products. Even waterless products. So how dirty must the vehicle be before you wash it rather than use a detailer? And I have purchased the 2 bucket grit guard system and the fancy waffle towels and fiber mitts. And Meguiars gold class wash and conditioner. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I wouldn't use it after driving and getting some grime present. I would use it as a last step wipe down type product. If the vehicle sits in a garage and just had minor dusting from sitting for a few days that might be a acceptable usage as well

Ok. Thanks. I bought one of those California detailing brushes also. Same thing with that? Its a duster as the name implies and not a cleaner?

Forget about using that California duster.

In terms of when to use Meguiar's Quik Detailer, you can use it after you washed the car on dry paint or as a drying aid. It can help remove light dust.

Once the car has dirt it's time for a wash, rinseless wash or waterless wash. Each of these depend on the amount of dirt on the paint.

IMO:
This Mike Phillips article pretty much
covers the DOs & DON'Ts of most
quick detail spray products quite well:

Besides a drying aid I'll use it for spot removal of bird droppings, dog drool, other random, isolated foreign splatter, and spots where I have a hard time removing LSP due to improper application.
