Hey guys, I do a lot of car work. Taking off wheels, bolts, engine stuff etc. My drills are getting pretty dirty from grease and dirt. What should I use to clean them? Obviously i can't use water as it will damage the internals. I'm thinking maybe simple green, varsol (smelly) or brake clean? Kind of looking for something with the least odor but effective.

How about wiping them down with a rinseless wash on a towel? I usually use some alcohol on a paper towel to wipe down my tools before I put them away...so I guess I'm not following my own advice.

I use degreaser, spray on microfiber and wipe off. Optimum Power Clean is what I use but any degreaser should work.

Since we're talking about car tools, I've found OPC to be incredible at removing motor oil, best thing I've ever used (except for a chlorinated solvent, of course).

If you don't want to use detailing products, LA Awesome from the dollar store works too & can be diluted.

IME, LA's Totally Awesome is about the best APC money can buy. It will clean grease off tools much better than OPC.

LATA is what I use to clean most tools with plastic or rubber on them when I'm wrenching. For metal/chrome stuff nothing beats Brake Kleen.

But seriously, LATA is really good stuff. One of the best (maybe the best) pad cleaners out there. Also it is superior to other APCs for wheel wells and tires.

I use a lot of it.
