How to buff with a 3 inch pad on a DA?

I've got a correction job Sunday, and due to their location, I'm going to have to remove some defects using a 3 in pad on my DA. I always feel weird buffing with a tiny pad on my big Griot's. The machine seems way too powerful for such a small pad, and if I use it at speed 5 or 6, it feels like the backing plate and pad are going way too fast.

Do you use the same amount of pressure and the same speed settings when using a 3 inch pad for defect removal, or do you turn the speed and pressure down?

I have a pc and I don't exceed speed 4 with 3 inch pads. I use 3 inch pads on lots of cars it's easier to get the in some places
