How to clean door jambs

There's a couple of ways to clean door jambs including simply wiping them with an APC, waterless wash or spray detailer. When the door jambs in question have 40 plus years of grime then here's another method.

BEFORE washing the outside of the car - start by washing the door jambs. Spray the door jambs down with an APC or Engine Degreaser, (depending upon how grimy they are) and then agitate with a brush.

Next rinse and dry. Be careful not to get water inside the car.

Afterwards you can apply a cleaner/wax to make the paint shine.

The door jambs on this old Tbird were gross and to get the clean again I used,

McKee's 37 Engine Degreaser

Speed Master Wheel Brush

Don't forget to lube the hinges after washing, especially if using a degreaser.

Great write up and photos Mike! I have and am learning from your excellent training and sharing of your knowledge :xyxthumbs:

Thanks Mike. Also don't forget to thoroughly clean the bottom of the door and attached seal. Phil

Thank you! As always awesome Pics and very informative!

Thank you sir. This is an area that I normally clean but rarely take the time to take pictures of and then share on the forum. The door jambs on this Tbird were so gross I had to wash them and figured it was as good a time a any to share with others.

Good tip and one that use. This car is going back to Paul over at Grosso Garage tomorrow and I'll tell him to spray the hinges with some aerosolized white lithium grease.

Not to beat up Facebook but Facebook compared to a forum is a horrible teaching tool.

Copy that Phil and just to note - I did wash the underneath of the door and bottom of the body panels. After washing this car was given a full show car detailing process. I'll post the pictures today.

Point being, like I teach in my how-to books and in my classes, the most important step when a car is to be machine compounded and polished is to wash the heck out of it and get it as clean as possible. For this car I followed the steps I share in this article.

Nice job, I use the same spray head, the adjustments make life easy. I prefer the mist setting when working around some of the areas, I know, it takes longer but does keep the water out, the rain setting does a great job rinsing though.

Good post Mike!

Another 'trick'...for rinsing, and you don't want chance getting water where you don't want it...try using a pump-up garden sprayer with just water and use that.

Very aimable (is that a word?) and amount controllable.
