How To Clean Exhaust Tips by Machine with Wolfgang Metal Polishes

Here's the stainless steel exhaust tips on Max's AMG, not the black exhaust film building up...

The easy way to polish metal
Here's the fast and easy way to remove the black exhaust film using a Drill, the Bufferstick, a few microfiber bonnets and Wolfgang Concours Aluminum Finishing Polish.

Microfiber Bonnets
Microfiber bonnets area available in different colors so that you can dedicate them for specific products and/or procedures. To apply the Wolfgang Aluminum Concours Polish I've placed a blue microfiber bonnet over the foam head of the Bufferstick.

The black foam used for the Bufferstick is fairly aggressive and can be used by itself. The benefit to using the bonnet is the microfiber bonnet protects the foam head on the Bufferstick so the foam doesn't get chewed up from use. Then, after you're finished with your polishing project you can wash the microfiber bonnets and re-use them. This saves the foam head on the Bufferstick and saves you money.

Tape-off and protect
Because the exhaust tips are surrounded by plastic trim and clearcoated body panels, it's a good idea to place some 3M Masking Tape over these areas to protect them from splatter and also to in-case you accidentally run the spinning pad/bonnet into the trim or paint.

Stir before use
Here's how the Wolfgang Concours Aluminum Polish looks when you first remove the lid. This is normal.

Apply polish to bonnet
You can do this with your stir stick, a spoon or spatula or like I'm doing, simply place the bonnet into the jar of polish.

Technique Tip
While it's easy and even natural to run the drill at maximum speed by simply pulling the trigger all the way, the Bufferstick and bonnet actually work better at a medium speed. too high a speed will force inertia to cause the bonnet to sling outward and bunch up. Running the Bufferstick at a medium speed will prevent this...

Wipe to a bright mirror shine
After buffing the residue, wipe off any excess and rub the metal surface using a clean, dry microfiber towel to reveal a brilliant, clear mirror shine.

Machine Wipe
You can also place a clean, dry microfiber bonnet over the head of the Bufferstick and let the Drill wipe off any excess residue and polish the metal to a high shine.

Cars are usually shining in the autogeek garage, now add some freshly polished up exhaust. Nice work Mike as usual.

I see you work on Max's cars often.

Does he work on your red monster truck? :)

That's funny...

Nick usually takes care of Max's AMG and he does a great job. As long a Max is happy that's what's important.

As for my truck? Max is just glad I have a truck with doors and a roof.

Now back to machine polishing metal...
