I measured and put masking tape to make neat lines with a black permanent marker, but then I found the permanent marker doesn't work on the plastic. All i can think to do is try a Sharpie but i suppose it won't be any different.
Anyone have any ideas?

dremel for small notches without going through the bucket?????

Paint marker, it's like the permanent maker you used but it dispenses paint instead of ink. You can get them at any arts & crafts store or Wal-Mart, I don't know what stores are in South Africa but I'm sure you could find one.

ohh, good! I'll try the Sharpie. I was thinking i'd have to stick a piece of duck tape on it vertically and mark that.
I've got yellow paint marker but i thought that it wouldn't work on glossy plastic.
:)

Just clean the spot before you write on it with a Sharpie. You can always get a soldering iron and melt the marks in also!

The Sharpie worked! (Goes to show, not all felt tip pens are created equal.) (Gratuitous photo later when I can upload it from the camera.) :)

Dr Oldz, I must admit I didn't wipe with IPA or benzine first but I'd just cleaned the new buckets with APC and left them to dry. Som, probably good enough.

JCTurboT, the problem with that is I'm not in the USA. Just an example: Lowes boasts about their international supplying, but a somewhat silly and slow email conversation eventually ended up with finding out that FedEx would charge $156 to ship 10 of the grout sponges. So I need to get to doing it through one of those forwarding services.

PS: Sorry about the badly cropped photo. I had to change the size from 480x640 to 640x480 so that the forum software would not decide to compress it - which really messed it up the first time.

Good job.

What is the purpose of marking the lines on the bucket?

To save myself the trouble of measuring out 15 liters by jug. :) (Approximately 4 gallons.) So that's 5, 10, 15 liters.
