A friend of mine has this nasty self inflicted situation on his headlights.

He said he sanded them, then sprayed clearcoat spraypaint on them.
Is there an easy fix to remove the coat of clear spraypaint? Do they need to be re sanded? Or would DP AIO Headlight Restoring Polish be able to fix this?

Yikes. That's bad. At this point your only option is to sand the clear coat off. DP's AIO wouldn't be time/cost effective for the job.

Did your friend get this idea from watching a YouTube video?

Yes, that's exactly where he got the idea.
I wonder if using step 1 of this system, then the DP AIO Headlight Polish would work? Or is that a dumb thought?

I don't have any sanding discs/paper atm..

That's ok - May I suggest the least your buddy can do is cover the cost of supplies to fix his mistake? Sandpaper is the only thing with enough cut to remove that much clear. Save the headlight kit until the final step - when it will work the best!

Start wet sanding then use the DP polish.

^^ This. No terribly difficult to fix. Hit it with 1500, 2500 then 3000. It won't take much in the way of sanding or even pressure. Polish with an orange pad and DP then seal them up. Will be fine.

I'm all out of the 2nd step spray... I only have the compound & pad.

Yup, that's what I'll do. Thx.

I had to fix a Range Rover for a customer and they had Sam's Club spray some type of clear coat on them. Took numerous 240 discs on my DA and almost 2 and half hours. So depending on what he used, be ready to have some patience and a lot of time.

Damn...

Some before pics. They just sprayed them the day before so it was still gummy in a lot of areas. The guy at Sam's gave up after trying to fix them twice and finally found me on Google. The orange peel and runs in the clear coat were horrendous. The areas that were somewhat cured put up a good fight.

Afters...
