I have a friend who's daughter decided to draw all over the armrest in their Buick Rendezvous and I was curious as how to you guys would go about removing the pen marks. I tried using UISG and OPC 3:1 agitated via a vinyl/leather scrub brush (Vinyl & Leather Scrub Brush). I got the stain to budge a little using OPC non-concentrated, but I figured there was a better tactic. I've included a picture below, the owner believes it was just a regular ball-point pen but doesn't remember.

Wow.

That's textured plastic huh, probably in everyone of those little nooks and crannies. I had this happen once as I was writing a check in my car, thankfully just a tiny spot. Drove me crazy. I actually used diluted IPA and GENTLY rubbed, sprayed some APC brushed, and thankfully I got it out. However this was like 10 min after I made the mark, don't know if it sits it makes it worse?(probably bu don't know) I am sure others have way better methods but its something... :) but I'd advise against IPA. It probably wasn't my brightest moment. But it was diluted :) haha

I would try some apc and steam first, gently rub at it with a brush. I that doesn't work then very carefully use some ipa

Not sure about hair spray, and i assume you dont have a steamer. So i will keep with the KISS model and say Goo Gone and a tooth brush. Ive used that combo for much worse then that.

Hairspray will ale ink out of cloth. I don't kne about plastic. Try a magic eraser. That might work. Even all purpose cleaner straight with a soft tooth brush might work. Go slow and steady. Do a test spot with the solution you choose this way you will know if it will fade the plastic.

If it is hard plastic, a toothbrush is your best bet. Aggressive enough to get into the nooks and crannies to remove the ink yet gentle enough not to damage the hard plastic.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser Sponge
or ink remover, check you local detail shop or janatorial supply.

91% IPA or hairspray. Problem gone. Done. Magic eraser will just dull the surface if you scrub too much.

Don't apply the ipa or hairspray directly to the surface. Apply it to a microfiber towel and start by gently dabbing the area. If that isn't quite doing it (it probably will) you can be slightly more aggressive but don't go nuts.

After you get it cleaned off, wipe it down with water and a microfiber and apply a protectant or leather conditioner so it doesn't dry out.

Let us know how it goes.

I got that tip, in person, directly from Rod Craft. He said that would even be fine on leather, so I'm sure that arm rest will be fine. Good luck!

Just use 91% IPA straight or dilute it down? I do have access to a personal garment steamer and an industrial grade steamer used by upholstery shops for stretching fabric and vinyl. I can give both a try. I failed to mention that I have some apc+, opc, and uisg at my disposal. I'll start with dabbing the 91% IPA.

If you have some 50-70% already on hand, you can try. It will probably work. 91% works better. I think you would be shockes at how well hairspray works as well.

Don't ask me why the hairspray removed ink but it does:xyxthumbs:

I've used it on plastic, leather, fabric with great results.
I always do a small test spot first just to make sure it's fine.

A couple of years ago my granddaughter with crazy with a permanent mark on my leather chair, nothing worked but the hairspray:)

I'm shocked to hear the hair spray (thanks for the tip) :D

so i assume that you put it on a MF and then go after the stain? I ahve a potential that has marker on her head liner and basically all over where her daughter was in a car seat. Was gonig to try Tuff Stuff, but I have 97% alcohol (basically denatured) Ill try that for sure!.

So is it Aquanet for anyone from the 80's and Lorial for the modern womans car?:awesome:
