I bought a used 2016 Audi A4 in February and while doing an in depth detail and ceramic coating application noticed that the PPF on the rear bumper at the trunk has a hole through it. What is the best way to remove the whole piece of PPF in that area?

Steam. Lift the edge and blast steam under it as you continue to lift and pull back towards you.

Heat gun...

Carefully heat the panel, lift and edge and s-l-o-w-l-y pull off the PPF.

IF possible - let car sit in full sun for about an hour to get the ambient temperature up.

:)

Don't have a heat gun. I do have a vapor steamer though, would that work?

Sure.

Work as good as and maybe even better and safer than a heat gun.

I've always used heat guns but you must be careful as they created and direct a lot of heat to the surface fast if you hold them to the surface to closely.

Steamers can also create a lot of heat to the surface so keep that in mind.

The big picture is to heat the paint protection film up to a warm temperature to loosen the material and the adhesive against the paint.

Then pull rather slowly and let the film give-away naturally. Don't force it.
