I've got a JD GT245 rider and the fiberglass hood is in awful shape, lots of fine scratches , not shiny any more, in the green fiberglass. They are very fine. What should I be thinking about using on this? The rest of it is just a bit faded (JD green paint on metal) and I know how to tackle that one..

Thoughts?

thanks

Same as you would any other surface. First try to buff, then try wetsanding

Sounds like a cool project

OT

When I saw the tittle I was thinkin', "Yips someone is gonna take on a combine."

I've been livin' in 'farm country' too long...LOL

Laughed when I saw this as I just did a JD L110 for my daughter-in-law while her husband serves in the Middle East. As you described, severe scratches, rubs and paint transfer. Got some use out of my foam cannon and pressure washer with a mix of various left over soaps I wanted gone just to see snow in spring. Used the Griots with Uber green and yellow along with products from Meguiars and Malco to get all but the most severe deep scratches out. LSP was Megs NXT 2.0. Dis-assembled and cleaned all plastic components with a Home depot product then treated everything with Megs Ult. protectant. Steamed the motor clean with the VX 5000 and serviced the thing with new blades, air filter, oil fiter from WW, synthetic oil and drive belt. She was flabergasted when I took it back and did a photo shoot to send to her husband. I smiled.

ehh not quite :) Just a GT245 that has 250hrs and 8 years old. The hood just isn't very shiny on the top any more, and the paint just needs a good rubbin' I think.
