How To Wash Your Car In The Winter At Home?

Listen, I'd consider myself pretty tough but it's been too damn cold lately to wash my car outdoors and I've conceded to the fancy drive-thru car wash a few times by my house (i know, i know....wth am I doing).

Besides using hot water in your buckets, what else is everyone doing to not have hypothermia of the hands??

I'm considering buy a boars hair brush (like at the do-it-yourself .25 slot places) so that I don't have to stick my hand in the bucket. I can wash the car outside and then bring it inside the garage to dry off.

Opinions and ideas are welcome.
 
Sounds like you have a situation perfect for a rinseless wash. Aside from bringing out the buckets during an unseasonably warm spell, it's all I ever do in the winter. You can do a complete rinseless leaving less than a gallon spread around your garage floor. I've blown off the nasty stuff with the hose or PW outside, or even at the local coin-op, then pulled it in the garage to do a rinseless. Also, I've pre-treated with my rinseless soution from a pump-up garden sprayer, which leaves another quart or two possibly on the floor. My DD is black, so a brush will never touch it.

With temps in the 40s, a RW outside using rubber gloves from Lowe's for less than $10 has worked so far this winter.

Gamma lid really helps, I've found. The solution stays warm much longer than an open bucket. Works extremely well when you use the multiple media washing (Gary Dean Method). Hard to beat a bucket full of warm towels for cold hands.
 
I've got a pair of gloves that go up to the elbow. I use that with my rinseless wash and my hands/arms stay dry under the hoody.
 
If you have a garage, do it inside using ONR with hot water.
 
Couple good points for sure, but let's say I don't want to buy Rinseless Wash (trying to cut some cost).

Any other ideas?
 
Are you broke? A rinse less wash is way more economical. If that is not going to happen, use your car soap in the same fashion.
 
Ski gloves are an option

I use 3mm wet suit gloves from amazon

But seriously, I never thought of this. It's my first winter being a "Geek", so I never really had any use for gloves.
 
I take it to the coin spray wash when needed. Too cold for hand washing for me.

I take it to one now too but you can see the fine scratches it leaves behind.
