hi im trying to post this right so bear with me i know there few headlight guys out here i just want to know what you do to advertise ur business and quoting used car dealer/new on headlight restoration

I would base it among two things:

- Products used
- Time taken

I offer headlight restoration using the 3M Kit. The kit itself is $20. It takes about 30 - 45 minutes to do and sometimes longer dependent on how bad the headlights are. I charge $10 an hour.

- Products used: $20
- Time taken: $10

The total cost being $30, it is affordable for the average person, and earns me $10 for 45 minutes of my time doing something so simple.

I hope you understand my way of thinking.

Your are on the right track pricing it by the hour. For a long time I used set prices instead.

I have learned that the hour rate sounds so much less than a total price, I get more sales.

The average large dealer is charging $ 100 per hour for their shop work. I have been getting a lot of work from them at $ 30.00 per hour. It sounds cheap to them.

One other thing you should do is stop buying the $ 20.00 kit. Just buy the pro kit from 3m. It includes both the dual action sander and the polisher. The sanding disk in the kits use a rotary backing plate. Sanding a lense with a rotary versus a dual action orbital is a no no. You will burn lenses. When you buy your stuff by the box you cost will drop to below 5 dollars.
