Hi has anyone had any experience with the Husky h1600 power washer from Home Depot?
It is a low end unit that I was considering to use for only detailing my cars. My thought was to get an inexpensive power washer so I could than get one of those crazy foam canons from AG. Isn't that putting the cart be- for the horse LOL.
Well to my surprise when I went to my local Home Depot I discovered that this low end 1400 psi unit came with as a no cost bonus a "power foam high pressure foaming nozzle with lance". The price of the Husky was $99.00. I viewed a video on utube and it seemed to be throwing some nice foam.
Any thoughts from the forum would be appreciated.

Thanks

Stu

I see alot getting the Karcher units in similar power and price, so this should work well too.

Do you have a link for this?

Usually the optional detergent foamer is mediocre at best, and runs out of soap quite quickly. I bought the Karcher Detergent Foamer for my Karcher Pressure Washer because it was fairly cheap and Autogeek wasn't carrying the Foam Cannon HP Kit yet. I used it a couple of times and now it just sits on the ground in my garage.

Anyways, can you give us a link before I make any judgment? It would help out.

Hi Emile,
Thanks for the info. I would be the first to say that this is probably not going to be on the same level as the foam canon. Having never owned a pressure washer and wanting a foam canon to get as hands free of a car wash as posihttp://huskypowerwasher.com/accessoriesmovie.phpble I felt it was worth a try as the Husky will only be used for car washing. To bad AG didn't offer a pressure washer to go along with the foam canon I would have bought that pkg. in a heart beat. Anyway here is a link to a video on utube demonstrating the high pressure foam nozzle and lance for the h1600 pressure washer.
Husky Power washer

Let me know what you think as I have not used it yet.

While we're off topic about cheap power washers... Don't buy a Husky, all three of the Husky's my friends dad bought broke down with just a few uses. You think he'd learn huh?

I would recommend getting a different brand, they have a bad rep for low build quality from reviews I've read, and the units I've seen in action have a 100% failure rate.

To each his own. We just took care of ours in Tampa, it was used for 4 years all day every day and did great. It was replaced only when someone wasnt paying attention and backed the trailer into it, bending an output pipe for the water.

So... after advising against a product that I haven't personally had bad experiences with, I went and borrowed so called "broken power washer". Seems to me that it was more user error over faulty machine (at least his newest one). The machine needs to be tested (as stated on the power cord) ...simple, and you need to be sure that your hose is not full of air before attached and prime the pump with water before turning on (obvious?).

It works fine! I bet I know why his previous machines had "broke down" :applause:. I apologize for giving advice based on others experiences. Plus he gave me the "faulty power washer", SCORE! :xyxthumbs:

Hey thanks for the retraction. As I didn't take it out of the box yet I was all ready to return it to H D for a refund. Now I think I will at least give it a test run

That foamer nozzle doesn't look bad at all. I'm assuming you use the power washer's built-in detergent nozzle?

Either way, you can't do a touch-less car wash with a pressure washer....unless you get some really high-power gas washer then maybe. If it makes you feel any better, I bought my pressure washer only for car washes and it was worth every penny.

Hi Emile and thanks for the feedback. The way I look at it my Porsche never gets no more dirty than a little light garage dust and the Escalade doesn't get much more dirty than that. My feeling was that I could foam up the car and than rinse it off with the pw and than use the garden hose in a sheeting manner and blot dry with my waffle weave towels and a QD if needed. I felt that for the price it was worth a shot. Had I already owned a pw than the foam canon would have been a no brainer. i will post some pics when I use it for the first time.

Oh by the way what part of NJ are you in? I am down on the NJ shore.

Yeah, after posting negatively about husky's I felt like "I don't KNOW Husky's are terrible". Good thing I went and asked what was wrong with it, then tested it. Used it for however long half of the driveway took with no problems at all. I'm sure if it's well taken care of it will treat you well. :xyxthumbs:

Purchased concrete etcher and sealant for the driveway today. Thanks, now I have another project on my hands :p

Husky had a very good reputation for many years. I know the name has now been bought by MTD, the lawn mower company. They have a bad reputation for ruining good products. This is just a FYI post, I have not heard what MTD has done to that brand, if anything. All I have seen is the "user testimonials" they post about the product are all dated before the MTD takeover. I have used many different PW and have been factory trained on some. My advice is buy one at a place with a good return policy. If you don't like it, return and try another.

Hey Guys,

I have a recent predecessor to this Husky unit, a model 1650 (see below). Owned for the past 2-3 yrs. Bought from the great orange, local Home Depot store for around ~$150.

The pressure washer is fine. Works well & I can give you a critique of the device in detail if needed (all the +/-'s). A "rated" 1650+ PSI.....it's plenty "sufficient" for anything automotive, that's for sure. As far as other uses go, it performs the usual, sidewalk, deck, vinyl siding cleanings with little problem. And definitely will knocs a bees nest off the 2nd floor eaves of my house! :) Next, I'm going to see if I can cut a water melon in half with it.........maybe this will be my contribution to YouTube!!

Never used a foam cannon with one...............I have a Foam Master foam gun from AG (Gilmour unit)/uses water pressure only. In my case, the Husky is/would be used only for wheel wells & occasional wheel cleaning.......at a safe pressure/distance.

For Foam Cannon adaption to this particular model, it looked like a "Bosch" bayonet adapter that I saw on AG was the right design, although I'm not sure of specific dimensions. I suspect that Husky might have modified the newer ones for different spade fittings.

The ONLY problem I ever encountered was a bad wand o-ring or hose washer that had to be replaced to eliminate a leak. That's it. Plus, this one (like the one posted) has an on-board reservoir for cleaning solutions. Unfortunately, they can only be applied at a LOW pressure setting...............not the fan shaped spray shone in the post pictures. (But, at huskypowerwasher.com, it looks like there are a plethora of accessories.....looks like some kind of high pressure foam adapter, too.)

That's what I know................."just my opinion..............I could be wrong!" ;)

BTW.........saw a lot of Karcher's when I was looking and thought, for the money, that the Husky was better. Never owned another electric or gas powered pressure washer. Just this one.

Hope that help.
See ya

Thank You so much for the in depth reply. The model that I got is the H1600 it is 1400psi and does not have o built in detergent tank but it did come with the high pressure foam nozzle/lance. Will try it out today and keep you posted. Thanks again for the time and effort that you put into this post. It is people like you that make the AG FORUM so GREAT!!! :dblthumb2: :D

Now I am torn. Should it be the ability to lay down thick foam or the bee's nest removal -- which one should be the deciding factor for any pressure washer purchase!

I am thinking of getting a pressure washer since the water pressure at our house is not very high. So, I went to HD yesterday and checked these out. If you buy the 1600 psi model you get the free foam nozzle. If you buy the 1800 psi you get a free 360-degree angled spray head (for wheel wells, gutters, etc.)

It appears that the foam nozzle has a tube and needs to be immersed in a container of soap. A cannon that actually bayonets to the lance would seem much easier to work with. Please let us know how well the foam nozzle works under "detailing" usage.

I look forward to the review stu. Im interested in this unit for myself. Try to take a cell phone vid if possible?

I just used a "Power-Washer" brand pressure washer to wash my car. First time I tried it on a car. The "foam" nozzle that comes with this brand is useless. It had no pressure and very little foam action. Barely shot foam to the roof of a little Escort. The foam nozzle required removing the wand and twisting on the foamer. This brand is a 1400 PSI sold at Ace hardware. It has all the same fittings as the Black and Decker brand I have seen.

I'm pretty sure the Husky 1650 PW is made by Bosch and as stated uses the Bosch adapter for the foam gun. I have a Husky 1750 that I bought three years ago that also has Bosch looking parts.

After some research, it seems at that time(2-3 years ago) Bosch used HD's "Husky" brand to sell it's power washers in North America. Everywhere else are Bosch branded. I could be wrong but that's what I gathered. Not sure who makes the Husky's now.

Made by Bosch.........that's a good sign right?

Never owned anything Bosch before unless it was in my car already lol.

Just a little follow up.

Since acquiring the Husky from a friend who said it was broken (user error), it has been put to hours of good use with no problems.

Anyone know if the foam nozzle and 360 degree angle nozzle are sold separately?

I have a Husky 2400 Gas Pressure Washer. 3 years old, never had a problem with it!
