Greetings. I'm a complete novice at detailing. I recently purchased a used sidecar for my motorcycle. It's fiberglass with a black gelcoat finish in pretty rough condition. I've washed it and used a clay bar to remove the gross contaminants. Thats when I found what appears to be some kind of damage to the surface in some areas. I don't know if it came from the mold like that or if someone damaged it trying to buff it. Here are some pictures. You may have to zoom to see what appears to be lots of tiny circles on the first two photos. The area in the third photo just appears rough without the circles.View attachment 53659View attachment 53660View attachment 53661all the damaged areas are adjacent to a panel edge. id like to know your take on these areas and what you think may have caused them. I've tried Meguiars number 49 compound on them using a cheap DA buffer (read Harbor Freight) and it doesn't touch it. Afraid if I go too aggressive I might really mess things up especially if this was someone's attempt at applying new gelcoat. Wasn't really sure which sub forum to ask so thought I'd just do it here. I have no background in finishing or detailing. I watched the video here on different buffers and noticed that a DA buffer will stop rotating if to much pressure is applied and understand this is a good thing for a beginner. But my cheap HF model stops rotating immediately on any but the lightest contact essentially turning it into a vibrating buffer with little or no orbital action. I just purchased it for this one job. Does that seem normal? I can return it easily. Anyway thanks. I'm glad I found this forum
