As i was walking outside the other of MCD i noticed a truck with a big water tank in its tailgate. First thought that came to mind was, "mobile detailer", and yes i was right. It said wash and wax and all those things. But there was something that i noticed that i thought was funny.... The truck was black, and it had millions of swirls and holograms all over the place. The swirls looked really bad.... Kind of funny being an automotive detailer and showing up with your rig like that... It would make me feel thats how my car would look if they "washed" it. :)

I Agree. Falls under the practice what you preach saying!

Could also be that the guy is so busy washing and waxing cars that he doesn't have time to polish his rig ;)

I see the same thing all the time, and somehow those guys manage to keep working. I had a guy from some uninsured and unlicensed "mobile detailing" company soliciting me at my work the other day. I asked him if I could see his products and his setup along with ask a few questions before he does my Jeep. He had an assortment of products from autozone and walmart along with a pressure washer and tank. There were no washmitts in his collection, but there was a big brush that had dirt and pine needles in the hairs. He said he would wash and wax for $30 then I opened my tailgate showed him my collection minus the water and vac setup flipped him my card and wished him luck with the neighboring businesses who are also my customers. It is funny to see "detailers" who think just because they have a few products they can do what us autogeeks can.

Yeah, but...what passes for "detailing" to most people is just washing to us. I don't think the customers of that guy are expecting him to remove their swirls...they are just expecting clean swirls...

It is pretty ironic, but most "detailers", particularly mobile detailers just do washes and waxes and make enough money to be happy. Dont care about swirls and dont bother to learn how to correct them properly.

Here at AGO, we tend to be a different breed that cares about doing things right and not just making money.

I mean the guy was chilling at mcd with his pals. I doubt he is someone on earth who is 24/7 busy that he cant polish out their rig witch he shows up with to customers. But hey, people out there think that swirls are part of the car and thats how they suppose to look.

Alot of people don't really notice swirls, they just want a shiny car. and most people don't want to spend over $150 to have their car cleaned. If people pay him then more power to him. I know around where I live, if I tried to charge what most of you charge they would just laugh in my face.
