I've been thinking today on this boring Sunday... I should advertise myself on Craigs List and see if maybe I can try to get some customers for car washes and details and such. I can provide pictures of my own car as an example and I can post pictures of the kinds of products I use, this, that and the other, instead of just explaining what I use in simple words. Pictures always help, it seems. However, I'm not a licensed or insured professional, but I figured maybe I could create a diagram of a generic car and use that as a "Check In/Check Out" form for a customer's vehicle in order to show that there were scratches/damage beforehand. I figure if I can do maybe 2 to 3 cars a month, it would be a nice bit of extra income. Do any of you guys do this as side work, but you're just not licensed or insured?

I did one time and no reply's but its free so go head and give it a shot.

You tried CL but never got any business? (Oh, you already edited your post, lol.)

I tried it once a while back and got one guy to respond, but then he never contacted me when I never showed, lol. I didn't show up because something in me said to not go. I do that once in a while... go by my gut reactions.

That's one thing I'm worried about, though... crazy people.

I had surgery on both my wrist hard to type with 2 fingers lol.

I have an ad I put on CL every once in a while. Barely get any responses. It seems like people who shop on CL are looking for the "$75 full detail!!!!!!" type of specials. I simply will not do that. But, it's free and if you setup a CL account it is almost effortless to keep an ad online 24/7 and just renew it whenever it expires.

Ouch. :( How's the recovery coming?

I may try CL, not really sure. Hell, I made some ads not too long ago trying to sell stuff and haven't even gotten responses for those ads. I think I've sold one or two things on CL before.

I'm Southern California, I use Craigslist often and it works for me. I do not give out $75 or $100 details. I hit them hard. I do get lowballers but I decline those all the time. My only complaint is that about 70% of the business I get from cl, the cars are really really bad. So far I have not met any weird or creepy people. Most have been very easy to work with.

I have a giant photo library on Photobucket.com, I use the html code on cl to post fancy ads and larger photos.

Give it a shot, you have nothing to lose. Be patient, sometimes I will not get a single call for 2 months. But overall i am satisfied with my outcome.

Post early in the morning around 7am, then another about 6pm.

Good luck,

William U.
