I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on the purchase of the new 7424xp but after reading a lot of positive comments on this site about the 7336 I've decided to againt the purchase. That is, unless someone can sway my decision yet again.

So with that, can someone please recommend a new backing plate for me please? It seems like a 5.5" is the norm around here.

Noted. Which one would you recommend?

How many are there? I think there is only the Meg's (which they recommend for their MF pads) and the LC.

Meguiars Mirror Glaze W67DA G110 DA Polisher 5 inch Backing Plate
lake country 5 inch backing plate, 5 inch backin plate, 5 inch hook and loop backing plate

Oh, and this one I've never seen before:

Dual Action 5 Inch HD Backing Plate, DA backing plate, backing pad

Oh, and this one from 3M:

3M Hook-It 5 Inch Dual Action Backing Plate, 3M DA backup pad, 3m hookit backing pad

I guess there are more than I thought. The LC is the standard, unless you think that you have to use the Meguiar's plate with the MF pads, but plenty of members say they use the LC BP with the Meg's MF pads without incident.

great, thanks. I know for sure the 3M is out due to price.

Common topic... even have an article on this that's very in-depth and has blue clickable links to everything talked about in the article.

One thing my how-to book points out is the issue of matching the "hook" to the "loop" when choosing backing plates and pads.

There's more than just one type of hook and loop folks. In my how-to book I suggest that if you buy a backing plate from the company that you're going to buy your pads from then chances are very good the company has done their homework and already knows to use matching hook on the backing plate for the loop they use on the pads.

I don't think I leave any stone unturned...
