I was out in the studio working on a project and after the project was over I tested out the new Meguiar's DA Compound and DA Polish/Wax to a Type II Bird Dropping which is where the paint has wrinkled.
In this thread,
Two Types of Bird Dropping Etchings
There's a picture of a Type II Bird Dropping Etching and the cracks where the paint has wrinkled were white from polish and/or wax residue getting stuck and drying. This draws your eyes to the bird dropping etching.
I used the Flex 3401 with the new Microfiber Compound and then the new Microfiber Polish/Wax using the matching Microfiber pads over the affected area and not only did it remove the old polish and wax but after wiping off the new polish/wax it left the cracks in the wrinkled paint clear and made the affected area disappear unless you knew where to look...
Here's before, note how white the cracks are...
Here's after,
Part of the reason it's now clear is the abrading action of the compound further reduced the depth of the cracks and fissures caused by the etching.
Another reason is the new Meguiar's compound removed the old dried wax residue via the abrading action between the microfiber pad and the compound.
One more reason could be that the polish/wax is a very clear product after application, drying and wipe-off. It's common for waxes and paint sealants to turn whitish or opaque after they dry. Some products don't and this is more true for wipe-on, wipe-off products that don't dry.
I let the polish/wax fully dry before wiping it off and then a day later, (today), I took the above pictures and so far the wrinkled etching is staying clear and a LOT more un-noticeable.
I'll watch it over the next few weeks and see if the whiteness re-appears...
The good news is the bird dropping etching is for the most part invisible to the eyes instead of an eyesore...
