I thought of cleaning it with an APC and ceramic coating them to prevent further deterioration but maybe there's a better way to go.

I wouldn't use any APC - it will probably make it worse.

The first thing I try is some simple water and light soap solution, even like some liquid hand soap and gently wipe to remove any finger oils using a clean, soft microfiber towel.

I'm sure others have good ideas too...

Thanks Mike! What are your thoughts on the ceramic coating to prevent it from getting worse. The material is plastic and is already clean. It looks like the plastic is wearing out or breaking down. I always use a sun shade too!

To me, In the pictures it looks like there is still build up on some of the buttons. I've had really good luck on buttons and switchgear with ONR at normal rinseless wash ratio. Seems to melt off the buildup and leave a light protection behind. Just ends up looking fresh, not "treated"/greasy.

I don't know. Never had this in any of my cars. Some coatings use some really nasty solvents as carrying agents, so be careful.

If you smell an awful smell when you take the cap off a coating, this is a sign of V.O.C.s and maybe avoid putting this coating on your buttons.

Maybe a real safe synthetic sealant? You could always apply something to just ONE button and see what happens over the course of a week or so.

The problem with rubbing anything on the sticky buttons right now is you might remove the paint.

I thought there was a thread a while back that someone used OPC to remove the sticky coating from a Lamborghini interior pieces.

I can’t find it though.
